Some have observed that. It's because unless you actually need to be slowing, it's actually better to minimize regen braking and coast more. And slippery applies less off-throttle regen braking. So if you don't want to modulate the throttle towards "neutral" as much, then slippery can be more efficacious.

The word of the day is “efficacious!” I’m totally slipping that in somewhere in my teaching today.

Clarkdonbran's teaching will be efficacious if he uses 'efficacious' in his teaching today.

Personally, I don't like slippery mode. In particular, the heavy brake feel turns me off. But also the livelier throttle response in normal mode suits me better. I do use it for actual slippery conditions, though. You don't want touchy brakes on wet or icy roads.
However, I'm sure slippery really does provide better fuel economy. The arguments make sense, and there seems to be a lot of anecdotal experience here to back it up.
I'm just not willing to sacrifice my driving pleasure to save a couple of bucks a month at the pump.

I have also found slippery mode to get the best mpg

Anyone else seem to get better mileage when in slippery mode?
Yes, in my typical short-range trips with XL Hybrid, definitely. Better than Eco.
YMMV

But I must admit, Sport mode is the most fun for the roads I travel frequently, like this one. :)

I drove 18 months in eco mode and thought my mileage was good (28k in my ‘22 and 5k in my ‘23). I drive in FL , SC and NC and for the last 9k miles I have been driving only in slippery. My avg mpg is similar but definitely better in slippery.

Yeah, for my in flatlands (midwest) Eco still the way to go. But, I take great advantage of the regenerative braking and re-use of the energy (takes a soft'ish foot on the accelerator and paying attention to the gauges to keep in "Electric Driving" as much as possible. Same roads, same basic driving I'll get +2-2.5 mpg over same drives in Slippery. /shrug.
