I'm surprised they still work, I can still remember pulling out 20' of tape from my old 8 track or cassette players when the tapes got old
They all work. I repair any of the foil joints where the loop is joined. I have these home players and another 10 in storage since they don't make them anymore.

I would like something to play my own 8 tracks (this is about 1/3 of my collection) in the Maverick. I'll probably end up wiring a 8-track player to a Bluetooth device and powered by the 110v outlet on the back of our Lariat's center console.

I elected to have $100k+ in my Roth.

Retirement funds are taken care of. These were bought many years ago when they were quite affordable. Also alot were purchased when record stores transitioned to cassettes and sold 8-tracks for 50 cents to a dollar each.

If you're for real with that collection then I think you might be the only person I've ever heard of who has hung on to the worst format for music ever! I've seen people who collect vinyl and there has even been a slight resurgence of cassette tapes recently. But 8 tracks were the absolute worst.

I got my first 8 track player around 1980 and after purchasing only a few tapes I swore the format off for life. They had awful sound quality, there was no fast forward or rewind options, I remember constant tape jams, and the one thing that swore me off them for good was the songs that had to be cut mid song because the full song couldn't fit. I was lucky because cassette tapes were getting popular shortly after that and I was able to upgrade to the cassettes which were vastly superior in every way to 8 tracks. If that is your preferred format for listening to music then you must love punishing yourself.

As I said, this is just about 1/3 of the tapes I have. Some of the albums were never re-released on cassette or CD. Actually the sound quality on 8 tracks is superior to any cassette tape. You must have had an el-cheapo brand 8 track deck. Besides the mid-grade Realistic and JC Penny's MCS (manufactured by Technics for JC Pennys) decks, I have several high-end Wollensak, Panasonic, Pioneer and Superscope decks (that when bought new were around $300+ back in the late 1970s/early 1980s) that are fantastic with Dolby NR. They all have fast forward and auto stop/eject. Why would you need to rewind on a continuous loop? I gladly suggest that if you actually listened to an 8 track played on a quality player (especially a quad 8 track with true 4 channel stereo) you would have a completely different opinion.

Also, I am not even a serious collector of 8 tracks. There are FaceBook groups I am on where some aficionados have double the approximately 3,000 tapes I have collected.

I was very young at the time so I don't doubt it was a high quality 8 track player that I had. Even at that age I had limited patience and I remember mostly being annoyed at certain 8 tracks cutting individual songs in half which was absurd. Then in the late 1980's my parents got this fancy stereo that could play 8 Tracks, cassettes and Vinyl so I tried my old 8 Track tapes that I still had. I hated the format even more. It's an awful format in so many ways but I have no issues with you and others keeping it alive. As the saying goes, whatever floats your boat. To me, if I wanted vintage I'd at least go with Vinyl.
