I have a 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid. After less than a week of driving and with ~1900 miles I received a Service Engine Soon Warning.
This message was sent to my Ford Pass App:

Service Engine Soon Warning
What Is Happening?

The engine control system has detected an air leak into the engine that should not be present. When this condition is present, can occur the engine Start/Stop feature (if equipped) disabling.
What Should I Do?
Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer as soon as possible.

I have an appointment scheduled for this Friday 8/18 I will post what the Ford Dealer does to fix it. I saw some old messages posted here but a fix was not shared. Does anyone here know what caused this?

I just picked up my Maverick from Flamer Ford. They indicated the message received was caused by Oil Stick loose or Oil cap not tightened. Neither of those were true. They wrote: 1988 Verified customer concern. CEL p2282:00:E8. Performed pin point test HG, hg1 yes hg3 no hg 10 pass. Engine light states there is or was leak in the crank case ventilation system such as an oil cap not secured correctly while engine was running or dipstick raised while engine is running. Vehicle passes inspections per oasis, Cleared code returned to customer. I reached out to Ford here through DM. They will provide a case number. I will post it for future refernce.
Happy Trails to you,
Gene

I got the same service warning today with 600 miles on the clock. I called into the Ford dealership about 20 mins after the service light came on. The guy out front said that the fuel cap was possibly open, I reminded him that the Maverick doesn't have a fuel cap. After, he told me that I was covered by warranty and not to worry about whether I should drive the truck or not. Just carry on and make an appointment with the service department. I will call them on Monday and update this thread with the response I get from the dealership.

I believe that my Maverick is averaging about 5 MPG less since the light came on. I've basically have driven the same roads/highways and the first tank of gas was on target for 560 miles (I filled it with a 1/4 left in the tank) while second tank of gas is on target for 480 miles, so that's about a 15% reduction in efficiency. Nearly every journey is currently averaging in the mid to high 30's while before it was common to see low to mid 40's when doing city only driving. I know I have a small data set to pull from but the difference is fairly apparent to me.

I checked the oil cap and stick and they are firmly in place.

This happened after my first refuel so maybe there is something to what the guy at my dealership said?

I'd be interested in knowing if you or your son have noticed any (similar) side effects but it sounds like you haven't.

I garaged mine for a week until my appointment with ford. So I didn’t notice a dip in mpg. Good observation though. They didn’t do anything to fix mine, just reset the engine light. I drove it for 200 miles yesterday and the mpg is about 37.6. It keeps getting better. I have about 2100 miles now. Most of it highway.

Had this 2x in 4K miles. Lots of reports here of the same error. First time they said they found a loss hose (no details). Second time it passed the TSB tests/procedures and they found nothing wrong. Just cleared the code. No loss of MPG.

Unwanted air in the engine? Those folks in Hermosillo may have messed up and put a turbo on the 2.5L?

Dealer had my truck for a full week and found nothing. They did all they can to make sure I don't use them for service, no loaner and zero communication on their part. When I called I kept getting "Waiting to talk to the technician, no ETA - so at the earliest tomorrow".

The good news is that the loss of MPG seems temporary. I had 3 drives yesterday in the high 40's and low 50's.

There's a TSB/recall on this.
Took mine in after getting same engine light/warning in November 2023.
Dealer said it was programming fix under warranty.
The warning had reset before I took it in for service - but they performed the recall service.
