I tried searching but didn't find anything. Anyone else notice their seatbelt lock when they lean forward (to check traffic) when going down an incline? Near my house is a Y intersection and if I want to go left, I have to stop for the traffic to the right. This intersection is on a downward slope and when I try to lean forward, the seatbelt locks. Once I've made the left, the road is flat and I can push the belt away from my chest at a pretty good pace before it locks like it's supposed to. Anyone else notice their belt grabbing quickly on a downhill? Is it designed to do that?

Yes it locks on braking. You can lean forward a little before braking and it will lock at the extra length. I have to stop and look left at a weird intersection and found out how to do it. Hope that makes sense.

Down an incline and a hard stop is all the same to the seat belt locking mechanism.

Come to a complete stop then lean forward.

That doesn't work either. Once I'm sitting at the stop, I'm still fighting to lean forward. It wants to lock up very easily. So is there a sensor on it that makes it more sensitive when you touch the brakes?

There is an inertia sensor in the seatbelt retractor sytem. As the trucks momentum goes forward, the sensor sets a gear stop, thus the tightening. Going downhill, the sensor is already close to tightening so touching the brake will set it. Try just leaning forward alittle BEFORE touching the brake and see if that works. I've been doing that for 3 years and it took some getting use to. It's there for our safety, so that if something should happen, your body is more secure to the seat.

If you're still concerned... Ford warranty covers safety restraints beyond 3/36.

You let it fully relax first ?
Mine does not do what you describe.

It is very irritating, however, you learn and adjust. I just make sure there is sufficient slack before braking when I know I’m going to need to stop.

Carefully initiate your lean before coming to that specific intersection - might be dangerous though?

Puff up your chest & gut before stopping - then suck it in to lean forward?

If the seatbelt still prohibits you from safely seeing the road - you’ll need to unbuckle.

Many of us older folks drove for years without our seatbelts buckled (not me). When it became a law, it became a nuisance for some (not me).
Then buzzes & chimes became required to convince the “lawbreakers” to buckle up!

I'll have to try leaning before I brake or let off and then lean and see how that works. Thanks everyone for the help.

Did some testing today and it does get more sensitive when the brakes are applied harder. I didn't know it did that. Thanks to everyone that helped me. I guess you do learn something new every day.
