Everyone is into money management if they want to be or not. 😉
You'd be surprised how little I deal with money. I don't even own an actual credit card. If I can't afford something, I don't buy it. I don't own a lot, but I don't owe $#!+ ! ;)

Sold my 2022 Frontier to Carvana for 37,000....payed 34950. Got my sales tax back, and a couple bucks towards the 3k I put down. Went with Granger Ford for my Mav order so saving 3k on MSRP gets me pretty much back to square! Pumped! This market is just insane. Luckily, my wife and I work from home and can just share the old CRV until the Mav gets built.

I'm surprised no one mentioned that we have been experiencing near-record-high inflation.

It's like saying you just sold your 1990 Ford F-250 for $20,000 that you paid $15,000 for in 1990. Adjusted for inflation, you would've still lost $12,194.

she paid $18,900 for it four years ago
I'll assume "four years ago" is January 2018. Which, according to the BLS CPI calculator, equates to her paying $21,258.81 in December 2021 dollars.

Thirty minutes later, the guy walks back over smiling, hands her a sheet of paper, and asks, what do you think ? $16,000
she drove that thing for 4 years, and only lost $2,900 ??? Whoo hoo :)
It's more like she lost $5,258.81, or about 25% of the initial purchase price, adjusted for inflation, which is still great nonetheless, just not as good as may seem at face value.

I had a 2019 Ford Fusion, low miles. When I bought it in June 2019 with my Ford Z plan and a $5000 rebate I paid $18,655 for it. In early December I went in websites of We Buy Any Car, Vroom, Carmax and Carvana. Carvana came in with highest bid of $24,408.
Now that's a steal no matter which way you frame it. $18,655 in June of 2019 is equivalent to $20,305.26 in December 2021. You essentially gained $4,102.74 adjusted for inflation for the privilege of owning/driving a car.

I had a 2019 Kia Forte, paid $18,500, Carvana gave me $18550. Drove for three years and sold it for more than I paid. Never seen anything like this.....
I'll assume you bought the car in June of 2019 and sold it last month. $18,500 in June of 2019 is equivalent to $20,136.55 in December of 2021. So adjusted for inflation, you're in the red $1,586.55, but that's still a bargain to drive a car for three years.

I am on the enviromentally friendly Yugo Green Plan.

At the end of the month I put my Yugo in the recycling bin and on the first of the month a new Yugo shows up in my garage. Poof! Magic.

And I am saving the earth by recycling. No worries about car values.

Purchased a 2019 VW Atlas SE 2.0 w/ Tech and Pano Roof for $29,990 with 17K miles on it in Jan 2020. Carmax offered me $34,400 in mid Dec 2021, with 47,00 miles and hail damage. Took that paperwork to a dealer in Texas that had a same day delivered customer canceled XLT. They gave me $35,530 for the Atlas. Maverick was $29,235.

Had never even heard of the Maverick until that day. Planned on selling to Carmx and taking the money. Hopped on Cargurus, searched for new under 30K and saw that. Called the dealer and was first one there to see the truck. There was a line of 6 people wanting to drive it after me. They did not get the chance. Drove the truck off the lot with 7.4 miles on it.

Carvana is offering $32,000 for the Maverick, they are selling used for 35-40k for the XLT around me.

Maybe if either one of us were into money management strategies. But what neither one of us are into, is headaches, and debts. We want that thing to be hers right now, and be done with it ;)
Everyone has to deal with money. If you aren't managing yours effectively, you are losing out on making more. When it comes to managing money, there is no better time to start than now! Sometimes clichés are true - this is one of them.

If you don't want to learn about simple investing, go with a company like betterment where your money is invested automatically. Otherwise some simple research can get you started. Keep that money, take up Ford's offer of 0%/36 or 0.9/48 - both are free or next to nothing in cost. There is such a thing as good debt if you're actively managing your money and budgeting.

Please invest that $16K somewhere and take out a low interest loan for the outstanding balance on the Mav. It will only cost a few hundred per year in interest and a mediocre return on $16K would get you so much more.
I put $8,000 down on my Maverick and financed the remaining $18,000 at 0%/36 month with Ford Credit.

So I am using the remaining $8,523 from the $16,523 I got from Carvana in short term investments or stable income funds whichever I feel is safe at the time.

I sold my 2010 Ranger ( reg cab/XLT) with low mileage (79k) to Carvana. They paid 10k+ for a 12 year old truck. Carvana is reselling at the 16-18k range. Based on a quick search. Crazy times indeed

Hey, that's not the American way! Get 5 cards and max them all out :ROFLMAO:
Well I guess I am unusual in that I have eight active charge cards (American way) of which two are highly active.

Notice I use the term "charge cards" and not "credit cards". These cards are "credit cards" with high interest rates but I pay them off fully each month so I incur no interest charges (Not American way).

All of the eight cards earn cash rebates. I use the rebates to offset what I put on them each month.

I have earned $14,576.95 in cash rebates since 1994. I also earned an additional $3,543 in Ford Rebates (Ford MasterCard in the early 90's) and used $700 on my wife's 1994 Ford Taurus and $2,843 on my 1998 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab.

Year(s), Card Name, Total Rebate

8/13 to Present, Bank of America Visa, $1,944.94
9/06 to 6/21, Chase Freedom Visa, $3,278.28
4/18 to Present, Chase Unlimited Visa, $1,712.58
11/05 to 9/14, Citi MasterCard, $2,067.98
3/21 to Present, Citi DoubleCash Mastercard, $539.02
5/95 to 9/03, Discover, $1,146.62
2/95 to 2/12, Exxon, $2,466.71
6/21 to 7/21, Home Depot, $50
10/94 to 3/02, Shell, $298.27
7/18 to Present, USbank Visa, $872.52
9/20 to 10/20, USbank Go, $200

Of the above 10 cards I am currently only using the USBank Visa, Citi DoubleCash Mastercard.

The USBank Visa offers 5% rebates on my Utilities bills (Electric) and Fast Food while the Citi DoubleCash Mastercard offers 2% rebates on everything and is unlimited in rebates earned yearly.

I have opened accounts to get sizeable rebates and bonuses and when they are earned I have closed those accounts. Doing this has not affected my credit score because of the many long lived accounts I have. Even having the $18,000 Ford Credit loan increased my score by 10 points to 830.

The reason I do open then close some credit card accounts like Amazon, Home Depot, USBank Go is that I earned the rebate/bonus offer and I do not plan to use the card again and by closing the card it opens up another opportunity to again get another bonus offer. I have done this on the Amazon card before.

In purchasing my Ford Maverick Hybrid I earned 42,000 FordPass points worth $210. and by opening the FordPass Visa card and putting $3,000 down payment on it (listed as Ford Services) I will earn 30,000 FordPass points worth $150 + 11,000 bonus points worth $55 along with a $100 account credit.

I have already used 18,884 FordPass points ($94.42) to purchase the Ford OEM Splash Guards.

The remaining 64,116 points ($320.58) will be used in purchasing the Ford Drop-in Bedliner.

Get the car financed, put the $30k in an index fund. Just open an account with something like TD Ameritrade or your favorite online stock trader. Its cheap and probably lower risk than "investing" 100% in a maverick. Which is what you are doing when you buy a car.
