2023 Lariat, 2,900 miles. Mine has looked exactly the same since I brought it home. I think it's just the way it is on the steering knuckle. Surface rust only, not concerned about it. I was going to get some rust conversion paint to take care of it at some point.

Totally normal. Even my 23 XL has a little bit of surface rust on the knuckle. Just means its a higher quality metal, which is more ideal long term. Literally any Maverick is going to have this so no since in making a stink about it

Surface Oxidation on a Ductile Iron Spindle is very common unless it is painted.

I've worked for companies that served Industry, the Government, and the private sector.
The private sector is by far more critical and has higher expectations, not requirements, expectations, in the three segments.

its called surface rust. not a big deal at all

This is completely normal. Usually thick cast iron or steel parts are not painted or coated since rust will not hurt them. You will see this with control arms, engine blocks, axles, and other thick cast iron/steel parts that are not easily visible. They will have slight rust on them as soon as they leave the factory since any moisture will cause rust within hours.

Not a worry as it is an untreated cast piece. If it bothers you, just go to Harbor Freight and get a spray can of rust converter. It will turn it blackish.
