This pic shows just 1 BedRack/Crossbar and 1 RoofRack/Crossbar- sort of a minimalist approach that might be fine for light loads- did you have to buy a apir of each and only used 1 out of each pair or find a source for 1 of each (if a source- please tell us where you got them as some of us are looking to curtail costs and have light loads).I think you are right for many uses on the roof rack (there are manufacturers that sell singles but not sure of height or capacity). Attached is example of single roof and single bed rack cross members I like, but shown carrying just a kayak whereas I want to carry some lumber etc.
