Is there an increased risk of fire with hybrids during accidents? I have seen several cases with hybrid vehicles where the cars caught immediately fire during an accident and I doubt it would have been the same with a regular gas car.

That's the cool thing about gasoline. It doesn't burn.

Like, you personally witnessed them or you read about them? I can't tell if you're being serious or not. If you read enough of anything on the Internet, you'll be convinced that it's a matter of fact.

For all intents and purposes, I think you should be concerned about more pressing matters than whether a hybrid or pure BEV carries a greater fire risk than an equivalent gasoline car. Perhaps the fact that the only thing separating you from a head-on collision is some paint on the road and the competency and non-suicidal/homicidal thoughts of the oncoming drivers.

Ever see videos of lithium batteries catching fire? And to think that they are carried in pants pockets or purses!

Short answer: No.

Hybrids have been around a long long time. If there was an 'increased risk' of fire, hybrids would have disappeared in a blaze of personal injury lawsuits years ago.

Just not true. Anytime you add a possible source of fire, extra battery and high voltage there is going to be an increased risk.
Okay. Show us the data. Auto insurance companies all over the world would like to see it.

Well, there is the case of the Chevy Bolt (all electric) which recalled 100% of them and told owners not to park them inside a garage as they could catch on fire and burn down the house. All linked to bad batteries from battery supplier, LG. Didn't even need to be in any accident.

Hybrid cars have smaller battery modules than a full EV. Gasoline is the thing to worry about if you ask me. Toyota sold a ton of hybrid cars over the last 10 years and I have never heard a story about them being a fire hazard.

If you are worried about it, don't get a hybrid vehicle of any kind. You might be to nervous to drive it safely.

It is not from a random source, is actually from reliable local news. One of them I remember well, which was an almost brand new lexus 300h which caught immediately fire and the young boy inside didn't have any chance.
And speaking of random internet sources, after I posted this thread, I googled my question and this was the first thing which came up. So it seems there are more risks:

It would seem that once the 15 gallon container of gasoline has ignited, the rest is kind of irrelevant.

Is there a bit more of a risk, possibly. Enough of a percentage greater to lose sleep over, that's up to you.

Well, Chevrolet Bolt's just burst into flames on their own for no reason.

Only risk with the Hybrid is the glowing red hot cat during cold remote starts, as peeps have posted here. Not have heard or read anything about hybrids.... Full on EV yes all the time of how those power cells catch fire and then shoot out hot batteries like missiles.... Tesla's mostly have those issues.

Yes, Volt and Bolt are different cars. LG sold GM defective batteries for the BOLT. That is a fact.
