Ring is introducing a Car Cam. If you're already part of the Ring camera and alarm devices ecosystem, that can now be extended to your Maverick. Keep an eye on your truck even when you're not driving it. Pre order link: Ring Car Cam.

DISCLAIMER: I'm note trying to sell anyone on this device. It's just an FYI... post. I don't work for Amazon, Ring, or any affiliated company.

I don’t know about this… I have major trust issues with Amazon/Ring freely sharing my video and stepping all over my privacy. It’s pretty bad when I prefer a Chinese brand that saves to micro-SD over an American product.

Looks like a terrible viewing angle from the video. I could see this being good if you had kids though.

To address your point, without the optional cloud subscription, the recordings are saved on device only, just like the SD cards in the foreign branded cameras. So out of the box Amazon & Ring don't have the car cam videos.

that's exactly why I want an in-car camera. not for ridesharing.. to see what the heck is happening in the car if there's an accident or break-in. my son's almost 16.

I'm sure all of this is made in China as well. 90% of what we buy is. Except for Senor Maverick!

Interesting concept to add LTE to the device. But also makes it useless in about 7-10 years when LTE eventually phases out.

BTW:

I'd be interested in seeing a camera resolution comparison. I know Linus tech tips did a great video on dash cam quality and all the competitors are using the same two sensors with the only variety being in post processing.

IIRC the moral of the video was get a viofo dash cam or use a go pro. I've also seen reviews since then advocating for a dash camera that has both a telephoto lens and wide angle so you can both see license plate info and the surrounding collision event.

Search Techmoan on Youtube. He did a ton of dashcams for a while and will usually post a video when a good one comes out.

no, it of course has local recording. it couldn't operate without something to buffer data that hasn't yet been uploaded.

they just do not seem to list anywhere what the capacity is, either in hours or GB. I also don't see an SD card slot or mention of using one.

but yes, typical Ring, they want you to buy a subscription.

"2 hd cameras", there is a massive difference between 1080p, 2k, and 4k.
