Keep in mind the FWD and AWD have different suspensions. The ride quality will be somewhat different between the 2.

Steers like a truck, rides like a SUV.

I'd call it "firm". I went from a mazda 3 sedan to an AWD mav. It was firmer over rough stuff and the cabin is a bit noisier but not by as much as you would think.

To me, it feels sure footed. It doesn't handle like a sports car but it's a LOT better than I expected, even not accounting for the lack of weight in back, This is with the perspective of having owned a 1980 RWD toyota pickup.

No issues at all with ride quality or handling. Both were a pleasant surprise.

In my short time with my AWD Eco Lariat Luxury 360/360 Assist, with Michelins, I'll say firm, and noisy is a relative term...On pavement, it's smooth and pretty quiet....on highways/roads that are concrete, it's louder, and the noise seems to becoming in from the doors...

Seems to me, like Ford put zero in between walls of sheet metal...but this could be every vehicle...it's like they're hollow and not sealed as well as they could be. But again, for what it is, it's fine. Wish there was a way to "noise insulate" those doors (sounds more rears than front) that wouldn't be a PIA, and expensive.

Doesn't turn on a dime, but it's acceptable: I try to keep it in Sport because you can feel the difference IMHO. Very happy overall with the truck.

Handled a heavy rain fine, has great visibility. Haven't measured gas mileage, but I've had it since Dec 30th and sure seems like the tank is already taking way longer to head to E..

One thing I wish it had, and yet, doesn't: front parking sensors...it has smart cruise, crash avoidance etc, yet they didn't add a few sensors so when approaching a pole/garage door etc, as you go forward, it doesn't have it. For a "top of the line" package, that to me is a "zonk". Also, one of the weakest displays/infotainment set ups I've seen....especially in a vehicle called a Lariat....just not intuitive and makes you work for info some times. And it needs fog lights (I'll be adding them)

Again, overall, exceeded my expectations, and I have zero regret. I can see why, especially in these price points all across the trim levels, people want one. It makes a lot of sense and serves multiple purposes without breaking the bank.

Compare it to my wife's 2015 Impala V6 LTZ, I'd say the Maverick Hybrid is slower accelerating and takes a bit longer to stop. It would certainly be considered a less smooth and sophisticated ride - but then the Impala was rated by several reviewers as being on par with BMW and Mercedes in those aspects.

Compared to my 2012 Prius-C, on the other hand, it accelerates quite briskly, the ride is downright cushy, and it handles very well. The only area that takes a big hit is turning circle, where the Maverick simply cannot compete with the tiny Prius-C.

So "how it compares" really depends on what you're coming from...

And if you're coming from pretty much any standard or compact pickup truck, I think you'll find it handles and rides much better on the road that any of those "big boys." (I've driven it on gravel and relatively smooth, well-travelled "dirt" roads, but I really don't do any true "off-road" driving. Interior comfort is pretty subjective, but for me, it's as good as anything out there - at least for medium-length trips. (I haven't driven more than 4 hours at a stretch yet...)

The Eco I tested (AWD+4K Tow dealer vehicle) was remarkably quick (somewhat surprisingly so) off the line, and pulled steadily up to highway speeds (as far as I tested it, since it was a dealer's vehicle I was test driving). The ride is if anything slightly better than my current hybrid (though it's a very small difference to me). The overall handling was quite similar, though I did experience a bit of torque steer with the Eco that I have not noticed in my Hybrid.

Compared to the Eco, my hybrid seems slightly slower immediately off the line (that's where the Eco gains all its initial advantage), but once you're moving, it has plenty of pep, and I'd say it runs at least on-par with the "average" vehicle on the road. I've never been in a situation where I felt like it needed more power. (Hearing Tim "The Toolman" Tailor's voice in my head...)

I've only driven Lariat editions, and they were both remarkably quiet, transmitting surprisingly little wind and road noise. To say I'm happy with my Hybrid Lariat is an understatement!

Compared to my wife's 2019 Subaru Ascent, the Mav rides firmer but I wouldn't call it harsh. I live in the country and travel a mix of rough country roads, smoother main routes and highways weekly. It feels tuned appropriately given the utility of the vehicle. With the Ascent you feel the weight much more and the Mav feels lighter on its feet without being jittery.

I test drove the XLT, bought the Lariat but I noticed no ride difference at all.
