Nope, not on my truck!
They will rust.
Yes, they probably will. Cleaning / treating rust is pretty simple compared to corroded aluminum.

If the colors were solid vs metallic, I could see it, but no way am I doing white wheels on my xl. The silver will look nice, liked it on my 2020 ranger xl

Ford should have put chrome or polished stainless centercaps on the steelies and painted them black instead of gray like police car wheels.

All it needs is a set of $50 plastic chrome beauty rings from Amazon.

Like lipstick on a pig. The XL wheels are the cheapest thing Ford could find to fit on the truck and should be left alone or replaced.
I wanted to buy a basic truck when I was first looking at the Maverick.
I was disappointed that cruise wasn’t standard and then those wheels…
I had to get an XLT.

Meh, I'm not a fan personally. I'll just keep my steelies unpainted.

What are the thoughts on going retro with XL steelies painted to match whatever the body color is?

Having your truck's finish on the wheels is a great look, however, something is needed to contrast with the color. Black or chrome center cap and/or contrasting stripe along the outer rim. Something to break up the color and make it look classy.

I got a set of good quality polished stainless steel trim rings from Amazon for under $100. I've never been a fan of the Earl Scheib look with color matched wheels.

The steelies are just too bright. For the color to last be sure to buy spray paint specifically made for wheels and the high road temp they must endure. I put Blizzak winter tires on a set of steelies but before I got them installed, I spray painted them with the color named graphite which matches pretty closely with my carb gray Mav.
