I am thinking about replacing my brake pads on both sides. However, it would be my first truck to do so. Is there anything that I should know beforehand...I mean, I replaced my old Subaru brake pads many times before. So I was just curious if anybody shares their experience with it. Many thanks!

No idea, I’ve always had the mechanics I’ve used overs the years do them on my vehicles. I do recall some post/threads on the subject in this forum. Search the forum using the term break service mode, that should give you some info

I just don't want to pay overpriced labor and such. For example, one shop refuses to replace pads only without rotors because of insurance liability. That's before the labor...etc.

I believe the rear brakes require that you put the truck in brake service mode. Besides that, replacing the pads looks routine.

The rear brakes require that you put the truck in brake service mode, and the front ones you can do it the all fashioned regular way

If there was one thing I could get the world to do, it would be to get people to do their own brakes. If you can remove a tire, you can do a brake job. $50 for pads and about an hour of work as opposed to a thousand dollars an axle. Biggest rip off out there!

As long as it’s done correctly yes it is good to DIY brakes, even more so if you need new rotors.

Honestly, some people just shouldn’t do DIY car repair though. Seen some of the scary mechanics videos of them fixing people’s DIY brakes jobs, everything from the pads installed backwards, not putting in clips, to not attaching the callipers properly, or not at all. So if you DIY, do it right people!

how many miles? Wouldn't do it at a Ford Dealer... I go to a brake shop. Traded my Escape at 64,000+, front brakes still fine, rear needed new pads. With that in mind, me as an old man, will continue to have someone do it for me. If the Mav is similar (since based loosely on the Escape), it is a no brain-er.... Even at $1,000.00, spread that over 60,000 miles... (we are talking 1.5 cents per mile here).

That is total crap. There is no insurance liability for replacing a pad and not a rotor.

Right! I know...that's why I told myself wtf no way...sadly it is a family shop. Maybe I would just do front myself and send my truck in for the rear to a shop somewhere else who have the stupid software device.
