Maybe Ford should have put it in the bottom of the cavern console 😜
Or people should keep their hands on the wheel and avoid manspreading.

I browsed this forum for months while I was waiting for my Maverick to be built. I was really dreading the dial shifter. I saw so many accounts about people accidentally shifting into neutral or reverse, and about how it has "no detents" and "spins freely."

I've had none of those issues. I'm beginning to think my shifter must be defective.

Not sure what drinking has to do with it. But I went for a drive and TRIED to get my knee to the shifter with the cruise set and didn't come close. I agree if I had it would turn clockwise and do nothing. I would love to see how they are shifting into reverse while driving.
UPDATE: Got the drinking reference, oops. I do drink so it takes awhile sometimes. I also HATE auto-correct on my phone!
🤔Hmmmm
Maybe someone can demonstrate it. I couldn't do it. I found it impossible.
That's got to be some serious man spreading. 😲.
This is with my right foot tucked up close to the front of the center of the driver seat and my legs spread as far as I can get it.😱😱😱

You can change it to a stick but I don't think you can change the location.
I've never seen a stick shifted windshield wiper 🤪

their vehicle is one of those rav-thingees. So floor mounted automatic shifter, and windshield wiper where the transmission lever should be.

I've never understood floor mounted automatics. I guess some folks find them "sporty", but for crying out loud, man up and actually shift gears!

The early corvette kind of gets a pass: they had to use the pansymatic because gm didn't have a real transmission that could handle the extra torque, and there wasn't room in what they'd already designed to add the cable from the steering wheel (supposedly).

Why do you people buy this truck, you find more things wrong so why did you get it?
I have been driving for 51 years and it took about 2 minutes to get used to the rotary shifter. I don't understand how anyone could move that shifter with their leg.

Is that a '73 with a CB? "Breaker, Breaker one-nine." I had a '67 F-100 with a 360 V-8 with a gas tank behind the seat.

It came with a 3-speed on the column like below. I overhauled the truck & installed a four on the floor. I also converted it from five lug 15" to eight lug 16.5" wheels. I think I got 12mpg with a tail wind. The High bream switch was a button on the floor.

EDIT: I also painted it Royal Blue.

I'm 6'3" with a 36" inseam and I've never inadvertently hit the shifter with any part of my body or clothing. Do you have the seat up close to the dash with your legs all bent?
I sometimes pull my leg back with the foot a little to the left, leg leaning to the right, so the knee gets almost on top of the center console. Never had a problem before the Maverick.

I guess that is one of those things you, like myself, didn't check out before buying. Like I didn't check that there was drains built into the front of the bed at the rear window to allow that area to drain into the bed.
I had the knob in my Escape too, and never had a problem with it (other than I much, much prefer a shift lever, but the concept is tolerable). Just so happens that in this case, in my relaxing-for-the-long-haul mode, I rest with my leg angled and it leans against the console. And sometimes bumps the shifter knob out of drive.

If I had a 3D printer, I'd have built a little shield for it, at least.

It's a little aggravating also, when I'm trying to position a trailer in my driveway, switching from forward to reverse a few times. I always inadvertently turn it the wrong way at least once. No tactical feel like the old school mechanical linkage. That little click is the same whether you go from P to R to N to D, or try to go beyond. My personal belief is that the knob was a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Probably cheaper to make though.

I'm equally less than enthusiastic about the electronically controlled parking brake, but for other reasons.

I purposely tried and couldn't. 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes I consider comments it to be coattail embellishment.

After using it a couple months now I really like the rotary shifter. Never inadvertently bumped it out of position. No need to look to select a gear, I count clicks and haven't had a problem. Instead of shifting to park before turning the truck off I just hit the power button and it goes right to park from whatever position was selected. So after using it awhile (and to my surprise) I think I like it even better than the shift lever in my Corolla Cross hybrid that I had once thought was about perfect.

I tried today with cruise set on 4 Lane road. I discovered I would have to bend and fold my right leg under my left to get near the knob with my knee. I have my seat raised some but not much. Maybe that little difference in height helps.
Wish you had some pictures.
