After waiting 13 months for my 23 Maverick Hybrid Lariat, I refused acceptance. The reasons: 1) After reading the article regarding what Ford did to produce it at that price was primary. By not E-coating body parts, it will rust in Northern Ohio. Other components were dropped or cheapened including the muffler. 2) Even though I wouldn't be financing very much, FordCredit wanted more than the banks. 3) On arrival, they told me that the radio did not work, which required replacing the entire touch screen.

I did drive it (without the touchscreen), and I have to admit, I liked the way it handled.

Instead, the dealership had a plug-in hybrid Escape Platinum....101 mpg in the city....

Enjoy your Mavericks everyone, I love seeing them on the road, but I guess I want more than what they offer.

“Refused acceptance” you make it sound like you inconvenienced Ford or our you caused them to go “oh my, he refused our truck, what are we going to do now?!” They will fix the radio and sell it to someone else who will appreciate it. They don’t care you “refused acceptance”. You didn’t say if you bought the 101 mpg Escape, but I can think of better ways to spend that $49k or more if you did. Try to not to take yourself so seriously.

We got an escape phev and it is fantastic. The 23 model is light years ahead of the '22 model. We've only filled it up once and have 3000 miles on it. It is comfortable and feels high end...the only thing is that it is a little loud when driving on the freeway from traffic noise. I think the sound proofing is not well done. Ford was also doing 0% financing in it a few months ago so it was a steal...plus we get federal tax credits on it.

Also, being able to have it fully charged and keep a full tank of gas is fantastic because I am always paranoid about the gas stations running out one day. So now I can have a fully fueled car ready to go that's always topped off.

A proper undercoating using wool wax black by a reputable installer removing the rocker plastic and all skid plates, felt, fender well liners and heat shields and taillights is light years ahead of a so called cheap factory e-coating. I would never trust a factory e coating. BTW, these trucks are dipped with a zinc oxide coating which provides a tremendous last line of defense for the undercoating.

Fender wells and other critical areas that receive tire driven road crap are getting a coat of bed liner material first. My Maverick went into the shop last night and I will pick up the truck Monday afternoon. Needs to be done over a period of 4 days to pressure wash, then apply the bed liner and allow it to cure. Then undercoat and reapply all the parts. I would do this with any new truck I bought, not just the Maverick.

I live in Vermont which is light years worse for road salt than Ohio and this truck will last as long as I want to keep it with annual touchups.

You should not have given up on the Mav so easily. I have only owned mine for 5 weeks now and it has amazed me to no end with how good it rides and handles, great power, roominess galore given its size. Cheap to insure. All for 30K sticker, 32K out the door.

That is a great truck you turned down but look at it this way, you have made someone else very happy. Thank you, I will enjoy my Maverick. I already am.

Can you go a little more in depth on what you asked to have done? And cost and all that? I live in Michigan and I just got scheduled for December and I want to have this work done for mine.

The truck is dipped then sprinkled with powdered sugar; it is a very sweet truck. Lugged plywood and paint in mine so it is only a semi-fake truck. Generally fakes turning into gas stations all the time also.

Poster was probably wanting a heavier duty truck at a cheap price. My wife and i were joking about being a fake truck. It's really just a utility vehicle, If the competitors come out with something beefier they'll be thousands more. The economy will only get worse. I paid $4.69 for a half gallon of egg nog this morning. Not the premium brand, was Krogers budget label. A box of name brand cereal (which i don't buy) 6 to 7 bucks. We're ok with a fake budget truck.

I went from an F-150 to my Maverick and I love it. Did I love my F-150? Absolutely, but the Maverick offers most of the things I need out of a truck (trips to Home Depot, moving stuff around town) and my hybrid got over 43mpg over the first 100 miles. Nothing about the truck feels cheap to me either. It all has to do with the American stigma of having to drive a monster truck, but size wise, this is no different than the Ranger from the 90's and there were tons of those on the road. This is the best of all worlds in my opinion.

I went from an F-150 to my Maverick and I love it. Did I love my F-150? Absolutely, but the Maverick offers most of the things I need out of a truck (trips to Home Depot, moving stuff around town) and my hybrid got over 43mpg over the first 100 miles. Nothing about the truck feels cheap to me either. It all has to do with the American stigma of having to drive a monster truck, but size wise, this is no different than the Ranger from the 90's and there were tons of those on the road. This is the best of all worlds in my opinion.

I bought a ranger when they first came out, black basic model. Thats' all i could afford, just divorced paying child support. Was a good little truck. Put lots of miles on it, never an issue.

Good decision. The Maverick WAS cool when it was actually $19,999 (starting).

You have to weigh whether a 36-39mpg truck with limited features and an outdated screen + infotainment system with a bad reputation for reliability is more worth it than a 25mpg truck (new Tacoma, Chevy Colorado) for a couple thousand more packed with new technology and a better reliability reputation. AND Toyota and Chevy are just overall better companies to do business with.

You are exactly right. This vehicle, for the price point that it was originally makes a lot of sense. It was 7k more to move up to the Ranger and 12k more to move up to a F-150. At least comparably equipped, XLT Lux package, 4/AWD.

My biggest issue, with the current gen Ranger was the back seat room. When I checked, there was more room in the Maverick than the Ranger. Now I know the 2024 Ranger has more rear seat room, but its also considerably (7k) more than the Maverick.

The Maverick is what it is. A budget friendly vehicle that gets good fuel economy.

Agree with others about being able to rust proof the truck. As for who has the worst roads, well I'm just smiling as I head to Fl. for winter. Tired of Buffalo winters and NYs clear road policy (seems more dangerous to me). Still, I used waxol on my truck. When I was younger, I used the stuff on the Triumphs I drove in the Buffalo winters and it worked really well. Mixing used crankcase oil and Vaseline also worked well but is really messy.

Rocker panel plastic removed to fully expose pinch welds. All skids and felt and any heat shields (not sure if and how many) and fender well plastic and tail lights removed. Spare tire dropped and both sides of the wheel dipped for rust proofing. Area behind and including the trailer hitch bed lined. Where the hitch assembly connects to the unibody also bed lined as well as inside of rear quarters about 1/2 way up.

All e-Coated frame and or unibody components coated with Fluid Film Black. Front fenders coated from inside engine compartment and underneath as best as practical.

Doors drilled and sprayed with CRC SP400. Inside of tailgate as well.

Out the door $550 plus a tip for his 19 year old nephew who works like he is possessed.

I know there must be a nook or cranny or two somewhere that got missed but any undercoating going forward will just be annual touchups for a $100 bucks or so. I feel all frame parts behind the skids plates and felt to be protected. It is the back 1/4 of the truck that is the most exposed.

We did the pinch welds with bed liner as I have no plan of ever removing the plastic rockers ever again. Gonna have to be good for life or at least my life. LOL.

I don't mean this to be negative or to offend--the post comes off (to me) as seeking validation for your refusal of a vehicle as insufficient, on the very forums dedicated to said vehicle. I think the way your post was presented was destined to start controversy.

I'm glad you got what is best for you and makes you feel good about your purchase. I just don't see any scenario in which this post was not going to create unnecessary controversy, especially as the reasoning for your decision is largely personal/anecdotal based on your specific needs or wants--those may not be a basis of reasoning that are applicable to everybody.
