My Lariat Luxury package price increased $1,850 since my order last October. The dealer waived the increase and I paid exactly what I agreed to. The sales tax on that amount would have been significant.
Sales tax in my part of Taxifornia is 10.25% - it really hurts.

I agree with you and Darnon, was directing that to the person that asked if they filled out that form.

*edit - I also was grasping at straws searching MTC when in the dealer to convince them to apply the price protection, which is why I brought this up in the first place.
No worries.

Reality is, unless you bought it under AZ, X, or D Plan, price protection shouldn't matter to you.

What's supposed to matter to you is what the dealer agreed to sell you the vehicle for when you put in the order.

Price protection is there so the dealer can honor the commitment they made to you on order date.

Unfortunately, not all dealers are so honorable. Many won't commit to a selling price upfront, or at least won't until you ask for it.

Beyond that, if all you received is MSRP without something in writing saying they'd sell it for that, then technically you still are in the "negotiating a price" step. MSRP is just a suggestion; in normal times no one would be happy to pay it. Now, some on here are happy to pay $5k over...

I have a signed DORA where the "sales manager" hand wrote my OTD price and signed it. Now he claims he was only a salesman then and it won't hold up. Really made me mad, then why the hell did he offer to write it down and sign it. I pushed to get this in writing because they would not do a buyers order without a VIN. Lesson learned.

OTD price is different and does indicate they were offering to sell it for that price. Only so much you can do other than escalating to dealer management, complaining to Ford/Mike Levine, and going the "spam with bad reviews" route. Maybe a consult with a lawyer if that didn't work, but who knows how well that would go?

Seems more like they realized they could sell it for more and are trying to get out of a commitment.

I agree. I am waiting until everything is done then I will follow up on options.

Also cannot use Farm Bureau, or the Ford Rebate. Currently emailing with the Farm Bureau program to see if they can do anything.

In the end this truck will cost me around $2500 more than anticipated, but I will take the risk of never seeing that money back to get it in my possession, then consider options afterwards. The dealer can always do what this one did, and send me a check in ~45 days and I will be ok with that.

My dealer said that requires a program number and none exists for price protection. I know they are trying to pocket the difference.

LOL. So I did just that, AND the actual dealer memo.

" Well you saw that on the internet. I am a French Maid on the internet too"

Literal words from the sales manager.

Also direct them to look up the dealer correspondence with the price increase announcement from mid December... Very clearly once again spells out that firm retail orders will receive automatic price protection for the dealer.

Automatic price protection will be provided on:
• Firm 2022-model fleet, retail, and demonstrator orders signed and dated on or before December 26, 2021, and received by Ford Motor Company on or before December 30, 2021.
• Fleet CPA or GPC orders will continue to be price protected to the individual customer’s contract agreement or bid date.

Yikes, what a piece of work.

Oh, right, dealer sales manager... Makes perfect sense. :(

Well, we did have multiple finance managers spend ~45 minutes yelling in my face, lying about how they were allowed to charge a fee their documentation they couldn't. And that was a whopping $155, for which they'll never get my business again. None of this really surprises me, unfortunately.

If the dealer sells the vehicle to you, they pay the original invoice price. If they charge the higher MSRP, that's just additional profit that they're essentially obtaining by fraud (when you have a firm price in writing, as appears the case for @OXHB619).

Yeah, I found that and he pretended to try to find it on his computer, but was halfassing it.

Same as getting my protected rates, I had to literally look it up and show him while I sat there, and he acted shocked when they appeared.

Again, they hold the power now and can tell me to pound sand, but I will consider options of what I can do after the sale to get it made right. Twitter is the most likely spot. No one I could talk to on the phone offered any assistance.

Worst part, is EVEN with a 1k dealer add on I accepted as required during ordering, the OTD price was about 1k over the INVOICE price I currently have. Insanity.

I have a '23 order in there, but at this point don't plan on going back after this is done with. I feel bad for my salesman, I know the sales manager is supposed to play the "bad guy", but in this case, he really is the bad guy.

I am happy for you. Only negative is that you paid the sales tax on that amount when you bought the truck versus having the dealer reduce the sales price by that amount and saving you that couple bucks. I am sure it is something like $20 difference though, so not a big deal. But just putting it out there.
You also financed it.

The sad reality is that they do hold the power. If you walk away even just to try to talk to someone else, they'll just sell it out from under you. Your only real options are to give them whatever they want, give in but fight it later, or give up the vehicle entirely.

They're lying to your face. You know it, they know it. They don't care. They have a long list of customers who would be happy to buy the vehicle you ordered for over (the new) MSRP.

In my case, they were simultaneously throwing in my face that they were selling my Escape Hybrid to me under A-Plan (employee/family program), while also refusing to comply with the cap on doc fees that's part of that program. They claimed that they were allowed to charge the state max, while showing me the program rules which they printed out that show they can't charge more than $75. Not only did they refuse to read it, they spent the 45 minutes talking over me. Getting very visibly agitated at me. All over $155 despite signing a form indicating they complied with all program rules which indicated they couldn't charge it.

The only reason they received the order, and thus allocation, is that they agreed up front to do an A-Plan deal. Then they want to throw it in my face.

All this despite honoring the original A-Plan price (other than the doc fee) up-front instead of making me wait for a refund check. 🤷

Last thing I could do was walk away, after waiting ~7.5 months. And knowing that they'd easily sell it well over MSRP. Especially being a hybrid, it seems Escape Hybrids are even more rare than Maverick Hybrids...

You also financed it.
At least for the short-term. Could always apply the refund amount as a payment toward principal only. Most reputable lenders will allow you to do that, so it stops accruing interest on that amount. But yes.

Exactly why I am waiting until I purchase. I can afford the difference, but I don't want to throw away a year wait by pushing to where they tell me to take a hike. That can come after I have taken delivery, it can still be made right by them, and I have the vehicle so I won't worry about it getting sold out from under me out of spite.

Congrats on getting the check in the mail. When you signed all the paperwork did you sign a form that looks like this? If you did was "Incentive B" filled in?

customer cash payment form modified.png
It wouldn't be in this case. That would be for an incentive/rebate that is being paid to the customer (from Ford).

This is price protection reimbursement from the dealer.
