I took my Mav to the dealer that I purchased it from to ask about the radiator and fan recall. The service manager, after reading over the recall notice, she said that they couldn’t do the recall unless the truck showed the Diagnostic Trouble Code (P1285 – engine coolant overtempt). Then she said that there was nothing on the window sticker or in the 402A equipment list that said the LOBO was supposed to have the HD radiator and fan !!!
I tried to explain it but……
Long story short, she was too focused on the “WHAT IS THE EFFECT?” Paragraph instead of the “WHAT WILL FORD AND YOUR DEALER DO?” paragraph.
So, I went the other dealer in the area and they said I would have to have an appointment before they could order the parts. So, I set it up for September 25 th. They even called me the day before the appointment to say the parts were in.
The Mav went in last Thursday and the work was completed and the truck ready for pick up Friday morning.
Everything went smoothly and looking over the engine compartment I couldn’t see any evidence that anything was taken apart - no scratches or rounded off nuts. The service writers were pleasant and knowledgeable. They seemed like they enjoyed working there. The service department is well organized and clean so this will be my go-to dealer for service.
Looking over the new parts it looks as if the radiator is thicker. About the fan, the original cooling fan was located more to the passenger side of the radiator. The new fan is located more to the center of the radiator and it is HUGE in comparison.
For me, it was pretty much painless. Glad it's done.
