I've always wanted a truck, but I don't "need" one so it's been impossible to justify the cost of buying one and also they're all far too large and far too thirsty. I was shopping for a Prius when I learned about the Maverick. It seems very promising. It checks all the boxes for me, and rings in at under $30k making it one of the cheaper vehicles I've bought.

I would not buy an Ecoboost Maverick, period. But I think the hybrid Maverick is the best new car deal out there.
This would be my statement exactly, but substitute hybrid CRV or Accord for Prius.

MPG was a big factor for me.
Yes, I needed a vehicle with a bed for the household hauling and chores (for gardening, lawncare, carpentry, etc). But the 2016 F-150 and 2019 Ranger I had owned were a little too thirsty gas-wise. Getting 18-23 mpg vs. 37-42 mpg is a big money-saving difference.

I think of the overall value proposition of the Maverick like this:

Ford Maverick Reason why Hybrid Maverick interest so high? [WARNING: NO POLITICS] 1636589665788

It holds true for both the Hybrid and the Ecoboost, which trades some efficiency for more utility. In any case there is no other car or truck for sale that can sit in the center of this venn diagram.

I have always been able to get better than EPA on any non-hybrid vehicle since hybrids are always pumped up AND have crappy hard rubber tires to squeeze even more into the estimate.
I'm not sure I understand all this. Help me out. Are you saying:
(1) You think people will get better mileage with the EcoBoost Maverick than the hybrid?
(2) The hybrid Maverick EPA numbers are pumped up and should be less?
(3) The hybrid Maverick comes with different tires than the EcoBoost?
Thanks...

Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?
I’m getting the Hybrid because it’s flat/dinghy towable to pull behind my RV. I also don’t really have need of full size truck, on the very rare occasion I need a full size truck, I just rent one.

So for me being in the great white north battery technology gets half the distance in the winter and now with global warming 40c summers. So nervous about the hybrid. The other issue is the parts Shortage. I may down the road traid in for a hybrid or battery.

From my experience the cold doesn't really seem to affect the battery efficiency of my hybrid. I lose a bit of fuel economy due to snow tires and they the engine has to run to heat the cabin. So I go from about 54 mpg average in the summer to about 48, but again most of that is due to the engine running to supply heat to the cabin. The maverick only has a 1.5 kWh battery it isn't using it to solely propel the car like a PHEV or an EV so extreme cold or heat are not as much as a concern. I have lived in upstate NY and NH and driven my hybrid in -15F weather. The hybrid Maverick also offers an engine block heater that would probably recover a lot of lost efficiency in the winter since you don't need to run the engine to heat the block on startup in the winter.

If you are cruising along on electric and need heat or a little more power. How smoothly does combustion engine blend in. Surge or just as smooth as pushing accelerator on traditional combustion engine. Never had much interest, but down the road it may be only option until the real future technologies are developed.

I drive a lot. and even though work covers mileage for work related travel, I do a lot of personal driving, too.
I don't want all that wear and tear on the Bronco, and the other vehicles have reasons they are not a good fit for long drives.
The Maverick - is the right-size for living in a subdivision, doing the stuff I need, and handling the random road trips.
And it saves some money in the long run, too.

I can nudge 33mpg out of my Mustang (EB), but that's because I drive-by-cruise@the speed limit. Last Fusion Hybrid I drove tapped 39mpg doing that (I sometimes do drive rentals - I am not driving from NC to CA for a 2-day visit :) ). I don't need massive power to compensate for "LDE", just enough to get where I am going, do what I need, and do it as cheaply as possible.

As for gas prices, I am in one of the unsual spots where its cheaper now than it was a year ago. $2.89/gal this morning, $3.03/gal a year ago on Nov 1. Now, if I go to the stations closer to I-85, its about 10 cents per gallon more, but still hovering $3/gal-ish right now here.

I am not sure how the Maverick compares, but given its the same 2.5L engine that was in my Escape, and it was using electric for the compressor for A/C, it had no impact on throttle response when it came on. The Hybrid Mav may be the same there.

Check this out from a source with a lot more credibility than I have. As for the MPG, I specifically stated that at higher than typically highway speeds, I believe the Eco will get as good if not better MPG than the Hybrid. I regularly got better MPH on my midsized 2014 Mazda6 than my daughter got in her Prius or Honda Insight at 85 MPH.

80mph cruising isn't supposed to be a normal use case, but living right off i79 I know that it can be in practice.

Edit: Video claim 35mpg at 80mpg for hybrid. youtu.be/8v6iza...
Hell, I was just driving down in Florida and at 80 I was getting passed like I was standing still. At 70 the HWP may pull you over for impeding the flow of traffic.

ITT: OP wonders why not everyone prefers the same shoes as the ones they prefer despite having them light up when they walk.
