Took mine in this past Thursday, and the service techs couldn't fix it. All they could do is slam the crap out of it to close it. Even my Sales guy said that they have been getting a lot of complaints over this.

you just have to put your palm at the area where the pull string is and push it toward the back of the car pretty hard for it to snap in place

Same issue I had. "Fixed" it by placing my palm on the front of the seat where the it lines up with the latch on the back and slammed it will follow through.

Works fine for me now.
Thanks was having this problem and this worked for me.

I have this problem too and don't want to make slamming the seat back a long-term habit so maybe I'll add some washers next time I need to do this. Thanks for the idea!

I have a Maverick Lariet Hybrid and the seat back would not latch - just like the other posts reported. After reading through this thread, I decided to try installing washers. I removed the latch and installed two washers behind each bolt. Fix worked as expected and the seat now latches securely. Great post; thanks!

So the seat back needs to be latched from the passenger side. That’s where the latch mechanism is located left of center. I believe there is design in that so when you are retrieving your jack from behind the seat you are away from the traffic.

I also had this problem when I received my Lariat. I worked the latch a couple times in between slamming and firmly pressing the back up a couple times. It finally caught and now only need to firmly close it, wouldn’t call it a slam anymore. It seemed like the latch was stiff at first because the pull wouldn’t move very much at all.
