I've only had mine for a couple months but I've already been camping/off-roading at Oceano Dunes, Hume Lake OHV area in the snow, Red Rock State Park, Eastern Sierras between Lake Isabella and Alabama Hills, and Death Valley camping at Hanaupah Canyon

The problem is that sure there's a 30° approach angle but only something like a 21° departure angle.
this is normal on pretty much every vehicle ever, including a jeep wrangler or ford bronco... although the angles on those are far higher than the maverick. bwicka's sawzall treatment is a great idea.

I wonder how much sawing up the rear bumper, will affect the value of it down the road?
I know :) I typically keep vehicles until they're ready for the junkyard or a major rebuild. Resale value is not so much of a concern for me. This is my first new vehicle. It will be very hard to bring myself to cutting it like this. Maybe in a few years.

I cut one of the rear underseat cubby plastic liners to install a subwoofer box, but that insert is ~$160 new. Best I've seen on the rear bumper with backup sensors is ~$600 used, and it's over a grand new.

Yeah, I'd hesitate to cut that, too. I'd probably just try to drive at angles which definitely works better in dunes than rock crawling.

I've been looking at all of these tacomas and how the hitch and the spare tire is well below the plastic of the bumper. It's unfortunate that Ford did it this way. I've only made two payments on this truck and I think I'm going to wait to start cutting up the bumper lol. I think I'm just going to put some thin metal across that area so hopefully prevent something from snagging it again. I don't necessarily rock crawl with it. It's all sand and gravel.

Yes :) something like that but it needs to go all the way out to the corners because the hitch alone already takes care of the middle. I'm thinking about a little protection for the corners of the bumpers below the brake lights. The reason being the trick with having a low breakover like the Maverick has, you can just take a break over at like a 45° angle, instead of just going straight over the top of it. The Maverick does this very easily because it has such a low center of gravity. The problem with this technique is that If you do bottom out the rear bumper, It will be corner of the bumper instead of the whole bumper.
