Try slippery mode. I am doing a solid 44 driving around town in short, 4-8 mi trips, and consistently do 42+ on highway driving, with one 1,200+ mi trip. It takes a while to learn the shortcuts to get better mileage, and it helps to have some hilly terrain so you can let off going downhill. I am often cruising at 72-73 in electric mode going down hills. Good luck and congrats on your Maverick.
I tried Slippery mode twice in the rain. Never again! Instead of providing more traction it feels like it just puts the truck on roller skates. I think it probably works for AWD but for just FWD it feels dangerous. I put on the brakes and it takes a full 2-3 seconds to react. It doesn't now what it wants to grab onto.

Yeah the seat bottom is definitely thin. I can squeeze through the while thing like one of the stress relief balls which is something I could never say about another car. Maybe one of the places they cut corners.
I will see how mine holds up. We have a pretty good upholstery shop in town and if need be I can always see about getting an estimate to replace/modify the cushion(s) if need arises. I just wish there really was more bolstering to the seats.

I usually just drive in Normal mode. I occassionally put it in Sport on the highway, but I don't use Eco mode very much. I was expecting to get 40mpg in my sleep and ocassionally 50 if I really start to baby it and use Eco mode. Seemed like most people on here were hitting 40 just using Normal.
It's rated for 37 overall. You can't drive it "normally" and expect 40+, but driving it mindfully can get you way more. Stick it in "slippery" mode, coast, gentle on the throttle from a stop, etc. and you should significantly improve efficiency. We're at 50.6mpg overall after ~6,300 miles and probably half of that is my wife's all highway work commute (and she doesn't give two sh*ts about fuel efficiency). It is not that difficult to average ~60mpg just puttering around town, but you'll have to change driving behavior.

That's the thing. I've been using EV coach and am actively conscious about trying to keep it in electric mode and still not working. Can't do Slippery mode. Don't know if there's something wrong with mine but I feel like I'm going to crash everytime I'm in that mode.

I'm with you on the non-intuitive vent design. Penny pinching gone one bridge too far. I literally thought the AC was broken one day, until I realized there was no air coming out of the vents. I get that it's in the owner's manual, but good user interfaces don't need owner's manuals.

The guys and gals at Ford need to read "Don't Make Me Think". Actually, a whole lot of designers in the industry need to read it.

I've never owned a Hyundai but know lots of people who have. They don't seem to age well or take a beating well.

We'll see how well the Mav takes a beating.
Good luck
For what it's worth, I've owned two Hyundais, both Tucsons, my g/f has an Elantra and my sister has an Accent. I was very happy with the Tucsons, with no problems at all. My sister and g/f have been very pleased with theirs, with no major problems on any of them. Personally, I think Hyundais are good cars and SUVS.. That being said, I love my Maverick hybrid.

Mine is surprisingly quiet for a low cost truck. AC and vents work great for a low cost truck. My mom ordered a 5'9" baby so seats are very comfortable. No one tall rides in back of mine so non-issue.

Biggest surprise for me was how small the back window is. The rear view mirror doesn't show much.

People are comparing a truck to an SUV? I bought 9.99 back and seat cushions from Aldi, those coupled with the XLT seats are perfect. My A/C works fine. Keeps things cool when it's hot outside.

I'm not sure why the OP is only getting 38mpg. I drive 70% highway and average 42 in the winter and currently 46 in the summer.

I have positively no complaints after seven months of ownership. Maybe my truck was assembled on a Monday.

So I have a 23 hybrid and drive about 35 miles a day mixed stop and go along with some highway. I have taken several long trips and am currently at 15K having received my truck in Dec.
Bottom line Averaging 42.9 overall. Have just started to select ECO mode will be interesting to see if it makes a difference.

After waiting 17 months for my Maverick, I finally picked it up on 3/18 and have put about 3,000 miles on it. Here are my comments on it so far.

Build: Lariat Lux Hybrid BAP- Atlas Blue

Pros:
  • Looks - I love the look of this truck especially with the BAP. I didn't think it would make much of a difference but it all adds up.
  • Sound System - While I agree it could be louder, it is much better than my 2018 Rav4
  • Gas Mileage - I am averaging about 37-38mpg so far which is about 10 mpg better than the Rav4 and the range is better also.
  • EV Coach - This has helped me increase my MPGs and be a better hybrid driver.
  • Truck bed - While it isn't the largest bed, I haven't needed anything larger so far.
Cons:
  • Road Noise - With the music up it isn't an issue, but the brake system and road noise is loud when the radio is low or off
  • AC System - I've seen some say that it gets cold quickly, but I've experienced the opposite. It takes forever to cool down and the AC vents are terrible. The locations of the vents make it hard to really get a comfortable setting and the fact that the left/right adjustment is also the open/close is a dumb design decision.
  • Rear Legroom - I was expecting more legroom based on what people have said, but I'm 6'2 and in order for someone to fit behind me while driving, neither one of us would be comfortable. My Rav4 had more legroom as well as my wife's Camry.
  • Gas Mileage - Yes I listed it in the Pro's but while 37-38 is great, I was expected to regularly do 40mpg+ and I've never hit 40 on a tank, just for a trip or two. My driving is 80-90% city so I expected a lot more MPG and total range.
  • Seats - The Active X seats are soft and initially very comfortable, but not for long trips. After about an hour or so of driving, my lower back starts hurting and my leg goes numb. I've tried to adjust the height and lumbar but can't seem to find a good position for long-term comfort. Not sure if its the seat angle or just the size of it which is a little narrow and shorter than my previous vehicle.
Overall, I like the truck but the seat discomfort is causing me to consider selling it and going back to a Rav4 or CRV hybrid. I like having a hybrid truck but the biggest selling point initially for me was being the cheapest hybrid on the market, the truck part was just a bonus.

If anyone has some tips to help with the seat, I'd love the input. I considered seat covers, but I don't know if that alone will solve it. I also wanted the Active-X seats because I have two dogs and its easier to clean the hair off of them vs cloth.

I have a 2022 Lariat 2.0 EB with Michelin Primacy tires. Question: does your 2023 have Michelin tires? Reason for asking is they usually are a quiet tire. With the acoustic windshield on the Lariat and Michelins, I find my Mav to be acceptably quiet at highway speeds. Seats: I am shorter at 5'10'" and played around with various positions. I found being an inch or so closer to the steering wheel took the pressure off my right foot. I use the lumbar support and tilt to find a good position. However I find whatever vehicle I am driving, varying the positon every so often helps. Seats: I like the material and the two-tone color. I am tired of black interiors. Complaint: My only complaint is the vibration/buzz in the dash over rough surfaces. Otherwise, it is a joy to drive. BTW, I regularly get 30 mpg in the 2.0 EB using 87 regular, a light foot and 25% city 75% highway. I have a hybrid Lariat on order so we shall see...

This has been my experience. I keep it on auto low and sometimes thats too cold at 72 degrees. Can't wait for the hot summer months. It'll be nice to cool off.

EDIT: Same on the touchscreen. I've had my unit freeze up twice recently after only two months of ownership.

Mine also has Primacy's on them. I use the lumbar support but I think it's just the seat bottom is too thin.

I'd be shocked if most people calculate MPG, vs read what the cluster says... When I've asked in other threads where people talk about MPG, most people say its what their cluster calculates.

I have about 2K miles on mine (Hybrid Lux 2023) and have enjoyed it very much. 65/35 City/Highway driving averaging about 46+ per gallon. Always over 600 miles per tank.
I'm 6'1" and haven't had issues with seat positioning or comfort. And my little dog has plenty of rear seat room.
Not a huge fan of the sound system, but it wasn't the main reason I bought the truck.
