This was 1964-1971. Left GM went to Ford.
I was salaried then.

Couple neighbors were (Ford) UAW the horror stories they had were beyond belief.
Sorry for changing the narrative. But I also did work on business machines at budwieser. They had a beer tap in the lunchroom. Must admit I had a couple and was not old enough to drink!

Aside from all the union back and forth talk has anybody read up on whats actually goig o in the rail jndustry at the moment. From what I read they are grossle understaffed and big union organization or not or not. If they used some social media to get 10% of workers to not show up for 1 day, it could cost billions if they cant operate the trains safely. Actual fights would be flaring at shipping depots all over the country, independent truckers would be fighting at loading docks just feom the disruptions or wait times lost away from home with no pay. We have been hearing it at the ports in the west already. With drivers waiting full days in que with no pay, where you cant idle for the AC. The planes are maxed, the boats are overloaded and piling up, the truckers are thrown to the wind. If you lose the trains you lose sanity. Nationwide.

CSX alone lost over 1900 employees in 2019 through attrition. Their hiring process used to take 4 months. They streamlined that to 2 months, 2 yrs later. They only put on a few hundred employees in 2021. They don't seem to comprehend why they can't get new employees. Stating it's a problem hiring in all industries.
Apparently no contract for 3 yrs, over worked, low pay and a host of other issues the union has is not a viable reason for people not wanting to work for the railroads.

The trucking industry is just as bad. My brother was an over the road hauler back in the early 90's. One company gave him a huge sign on bonus and started him at 70k a year. They then used the new Fed rules for hours of operating against the drivers. Giving impossable delivery times and docking pay when they had to park before reaching the location. The industry was short tens of thousands of drivers then. Now conditions and pay are worse and the driver shortage is greater. All the while these industries can not figure out why nobody want's to work .

Deal with them the same way you deal other bullies. You stand up for yourself, and you have your friends back you up.

I'm sure many will say it's never that simple, but that's the basic process.
Lol....Okay 20 hardcore Motorcycle members just on that shift. Everyone new they ran numbers and drugs. With the backing of the UAW local.

You would be in the hospital plus getting fired when they all testify you started it.

UAW = One of the most corupt unions in existence.

I ran expedited freight for small independent fleet owners under larger companies. Half the runs were cash half of em were illegal(hours). I got canned when a leaky truck box, caused 1 out of 20 skids of brake drums to get wet in a full on blizzard that no one else would drive. Whe climbing grades the snow was so thick on the road and the wind was so high that my box pushed sideways 15 degrees behind me. Got fired for a rejected load that no one should have been hauling.

Per Ford Authority: The current issues facing the U.S. railroad industry revolve around a contract dispute between railway workers and the companies that employ them, as their union-negotiated contracts expired three years ago. If an agreement is not reached by September 15th, 2022, the railway workers could go on strike. If this happens, it could be catastrophic for the U.S. supply chain, grinding transport to a halt. In turn, this could have a major effect on the automotive industry, as many critical parts for new vehicles are transported via railroads. If these parts are not delivered, new Ford vehicles can’t be built, potentially raising the price of new cars to new heights and creating additional low-supply scenarios at the dealer level.

So if the railroads go on strike, we may get our trucks built but there won't be any way to deliver them. So the wait may not be over. Well Tim if you're out there....
Providing it gets built (I don't want a Johnny Cash truck) I'm willing to go anywhere to pick it up. Ford dealer in Mexico? Road Trip!

The next excuse why you are not getting your truck.

Sounds about right! You die in a storm you shouldn't be out it all good. Get a rejected load due to poor equipment on their end, fired! My brother started his own hauling co after he was told to pick a load up after his last drop. They ordered him to run a new load from south NJ to Boston MA. A 6.5 hr trip and if he wanted to get paid do it in 4 hours. he had 3 hrs left on his book for the day. Company rules not over 55 mph. Home was 2:45 hrs away. He called them from his driveway told them to come get the truck.

Yeah I kept my CDL just incase, but I am way happier and paid almost the same given local cost of living with chopping coconuts for tourists and doing farm and maintenence work.

What's a "Johnny Cash truck"? A custom Peterbilt? 😁

Seriously though, I was following some random Johnny Cash stuff a few nights ago, and saw this.

"I didn’t do it, my truck did, and it’s dead, so you can’t question it."

https://www.thevintagenews.com/2016...d-49-refuges-53-endangered-condors/?firefox=1

"In June 1965, his camper caught fire during a fishing trip with his nephew Damon Fielder in Los Padres National Forest in California, triggering a forest fire that burnt several hundred acres and nearly killed Cash. Cash claimed that the fire was caused by sparks from a defective exhaust system on his camper, but Fielder thinks that Cash started a fire to stay warm and in his drugged condition failed to notice the fire getting out of control.

When the judge asked Cash why he did it, Cash said, ā€œI didn’t do it, my truck did, and it’s dead, so you can’t question it.ā€ The fire destroyed 508 acres (206 ha), burning the foliage off three mountains and driving off forty-nine of the refuge’s 53 endangered condors.

Cash was unrepentant and claimed, ā€œI don’t care about your damn yellow buzzards.ā€ The federal government sued him and was awarded $125,172 ($939,914 in 2016 dollars). Cash eventually settled the case and paid $82,001.He said he was the only person ever sued by the government for starting a forest fire."

That's still no reason not to defend yourself. Yes, there are always consequences for every action, and you might even die, but at least for me, I'd risk it. It's about being able to sleep with my own conscience at night.

It's from the song, I think it's called "One piece at a time". It's about him building a car with parts he stole form an assembly plant. And they don't all match. Great song.
Johnny Cash was a character.

off of the political stuff and back to topic at hand -- potential railway strike

My window sticker came live just this evening. If I'm reading this correctly, as a surprise, it looks like it is scheduled to ship up by truck (convoy) and not rail! Hermosillo to Philly by convoy! All other stickers I've seen have had rail to Wilmington, Delaware ramp.

update: the next morning it was changed to RAIL as @MLowe05 had suggested in the following post.

As posted in the other thread, mine said convoy at first and then changed to rail. It did that as well on my Maverick XL from LM earlier this year.

I agree it would probably be better if they’d use convoy, though.
