Dude, wth, not using the entire dash and keeping the cubby was not the smartest idea.

Will using this system guarantee no more freezing of the screen and radio????
I am guessing that they kept this form factor to make it easier to self-install, but I have no doubt that once this kit is available that a good carfi shop could easily integrate one of the Pioneer modular units with a larger screen. They would have to fabricate a mount out of plastic and fiberglass. Once the sales volume is high enough I'm sure Metra and others would be interested in offering a prefab mount for the bigger screen.

Regarding 'guarantee' ... that's the million dollar question, isn't it? This system integrates to the factory audio, because the factory audio is what controls key things that aren't just radio/receiver functionality:

- Seatbelt, headlight, backup sensor and other chimes
- Vehicle settings in the infotainment menu such as single/all door unlock preference, rear seat occupant reminder, ambient lighting

The Ford Connected Audio will still be there. And would I bet my life that it will never crash or freeze? Hah. But since it's still there, presumably holding down power and FF will still reboot it, and hopefully it's more reliable when all the media playback functionality is being done by the aftermarket receiver.

Funny, when I first saw this thread, my first concern was that I'll lose my little cubby. That's where my little Elephant mirror ornament sits now because the hanging part of it broke, lol. So I guess with the replacement unit my elephant still has a place. 😂

But seriously, I'm so waiting for this to come out. My radio unit started to randomly seem like it had a power outage like all of the speakers would click off then back on, sometimes the screen itself would completely restart. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced it and the replacement unit is even worse, lol. So I'm not going to bother bringing it to the dealer to have them replace it a second time, it's obvious the factory units are really cheapy, I'll just get an aftermarket one and have an improvement in sound and function anyway... Hopefully there will be one on the market that would be compatible with the steering wheel controls though...

Some retailers already have this kit listed but would say "out of stock" but really just means not in stock yet. But the thing is, one has a price for it at $999... And the Pioneer unit they recommend for it is like $750. I really hope some of the other 6.8" Pioneer units would also work, there are some for $250 or less. I don't need a lot of crazy functionality. Just being able to integrate to the car's backup camera, steering wheel controls, decent sound, and it not freezing and losing bluetooth connection constantly...

On my dealer login Metra shows it to still be in production but not released yet. The MSRP is $999.99.

Well .... there goes my excitement .... i hope that MSRP of $999.99 is like the gas station signs reading all 9's when no gas is available.

I called it back in reply #4 - this was never intended to be like in the 90s when you went into Best Buy to get a Clariion or Pioneer cd receiver for $100 to replace the base radio in your Ford Ranger.

This is a high-end car audio solution. If you still have all stock speakers, no amp or sub, you were never the target audience for this kit.

Bump
Any update on 2024?
so, I don' think he is active on MTC, but Shawn @ NTX audio innovations is probably going to be the first person to install one of these. he is the guy who did the audio systems in the Kenneth Mccay's silver Maverick with the airbags and tribal airbrushed graphics. (He recently sold the truck and they're building a new Maverick.)

Oh okay, cool. I do not know who that is.

I remember commenting on a thread here and a Metra dealer replied. I cannot remember which thread it was though.
