Hi Grumpyunk- I can’t get mine to update at all!!! It is getting to the point that the radio hardly works properly at all… I have 1.2gigabit internet, I have left truck to acc, to on, to running, nothing gets it to download? It finds the update but download? Could you give me your exact process. Thanks G

Download from the internet to USB stick. Make sure you format the stick to exFAT first. Then follow directions from the download site when you find it. I think it’s on the Ford support page.

You basically plug it in and start the truck.

Yeah, I was going to do this, but it states no available updates to download?? Yet there is one on the radio and TSB. It wants me to put my vin in and says no updates? I will look again… cause I was like I will just put on thumb drive like we did our Dodge Journey… ugh.

Do you have capability to see what’s connected to your Wi-Fi? You may need to be closer to it. Auto update is turned on right?

Yes, I even put the router in the truck lol! It is connected and shows the update, then progress bar never goes beyond 0% and if I don’t leave truck on or running… it goes away like it never found or downloaded update. I have XLT w/Lux package. It does show update… ford site thinks I have already updated it… which I haven’t!

You also may try a system reset. If no joy then see if you can find older version and start from scratch, if not then hello mr dealer.

As I remember, turned ignition ON, touched screen, swept left, touched settings. Whatever steps to get to software update settings. Clicked the info button(far right) on a few, likea dummy, and realized they were explains about the selection. Touched the one to display current versions, scrolled a bit. Back, touched check for newer firmware. Nothing. Went back up a level or two, poked into WiFi to see if I was connected to home net. Looked at updates again, going to get the version numbers, and noted that it was being downloaded.....
Something about a pig and a truffle... Or a blind man and a pot of gold.
I have no idea of anything different than the last check I made. When clicking on check for updates, nothing happened. Perhaps it was going on while I was reaching over to turn off the headlights, as when I turned back, the download had started. I kind of held my breath, not doing ANYTHING while it was in progress, figuring I would likely interrupt the download if I did. Finally got to 100%... and it sat there like a bump on a log, apparently waiting for me to poke it in the eye. I got tired of waiting, backed out of the setup screen, and turned things off. Removed the key and walked away. Left it alone to go about its business, i.e., do the update... came back an hour later, and checked current versions. It had updated to the downloaded version.
I think I had done all those steps before, except perhaps checking the connection to the home net. As far as I knew, when I checked, I was already connected, which is what I expected as the Pass app talks through that( yeah, via Stockhom, Sweded, London, and Berlin) via some circuitous route. I think it is the WiFi, as i am not connected any other way as one phone has had the cell tower equipment turned off and has no service.
All I can suggest is going into setup and poking around. I did NOT start the engine, and I DID turn off the headlights after a few minutes. Perhaps knowledge of the battery state of charge and the current drain of power is a signal to go/no-go on the update while sitting in the garage...?

Most likely. I've had updates turned off since I bought mine 3/30.

It says up to date when I check here
https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/
I have checked in the past, around January, and then recently. In both cases, it indicated there were no updates available. "everything is up to date" when checking on the web site. The head-unit update check also did not indicate there were any updates to the radio system software. I knew there was newer software available than what I had loaded, so checked again on a whim. For unknown reasons, it(the other end of the daisy chain) decided it was going to grant me access to a software update that had been available to others for almost 6 months... why? I dunno. Why is the sky blue? Why do dandelions indicate a favoritism for butter? Someone besides me knows, and they are not telling. Have fun.
