Hello,

I have owned my Maverick for about a month now, but I am told I am only officially beginning to be an 'owner' once I start modding it.

That being said, I have an LED lightbar that I am temporarily running off the 4 pin connector onboard.

It doesn't look clean and it inhibits most of the copilot functions because it thinks its at trailer, so I'm going to have to run it to the wiring assembly on the taillight.

I'm going to get some T-tap splice connectors tomorrow and want to know what gauge I should get. I assume someone here knows off the top of their head. I have to assume its like 18-22g but I could be wrong.

Let me know, thanks.

A few folks on here reported simply tapping into the taillight wire would cause issues with some of the copilot features like bliss. A recommended method was leveraging the Curt 4pin trailer harness since it uses separate always hot to power lights instead of robbing from the tail light circuit since brake/turn seemed to be sensitive. The running and reverse are a little beefier which is why Diode Dynamic hitch puck only supports those in their maverick solution.

I see. 110 dollars seems a bit ridiculous for a wiring harness. I paid like 12 for the LED lightbar. It seems I have more to consider

Adding a light bar to augment tail and/or brake light function can be an issue. Since the turn and brake lamps use the same circuit, a supplemental brake LED powered from these will blink whenever a turn signal is active and brakes are not. I've been planning to add a supplemental LED for this in the trailer hitch. The only place I can see to get a brake light signal that actually works is the high-mount lamp. This wire is accessible in the harness behind the back seat on the RH side before it goes up the C-pillar. The tail light gives me more options but I'm looking at hooking up to the license plate lamp circuit. This harness is accessible in the spare tire well when the tire is lowered. I also want to make certain that if I back into a wall and crush my hitch-mounted LED, it will not short out these signals. So... I plan to put some small incandescent bulbs in each line as a current limiter. Their cold filament resistance will not affect my LED all that much. These mods are shown in blue here.
