I’ve had an FX4 and Hybrid maverick out here in Colorado. Our regular grade is 85 and that’s what I use for all our vehicles, incl. both those Mavericks. Never had any problems. The only time I’ve noticed or used top octane gasoline is if towing in our former F150- then I notice for sure (that first gen 2004 5.4 V8 3V was a finicky engine). Otherwise with the Mav I’ve seen no distinguishable difference. I get 44-47 driving around town in our hybrid, even on BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain tires of factory size. That will definitely go down as we switch to regional winter fuel formulas and lower temps, TBD…

i wonder if anyone has gone with some Ethanol? Alot of plans made for when i get mine landed. immediately under the knife. Trying to finish off 2023 with being one of the fastest mavs on the east coast lol..

from alot of videos ive seen, people claim their butt dyno notice increases in power when going from 87->93/94
I did a full fill-up and drove the entire tank empty on a road trip in our former FX4 Maverick using Maverick (ironic) gas station’s “clean-gas/ethanol-free 91” (blue handle pump). I honestly didn’t notice a bit of difference in any capacity.

I think with the minimal differences with oct switching, its hard to really notice well because A) its minimal and B) the way the PCM handles the power transition through the transmission. which apparently is a downfall on the 8sp

Used ethanol free on second tank due to two BIG SHUDDER happening. No change in mpg and no shudders either.

I plan to use 93. I work remote and only plan to, at best, buy one tank of gas per month. I figure the higher octane will be better for longer runs like that.

I've got the XLT with AWD. I tried 93 and to be honest, I didn't see a noticeable difference. At 65¢ a gallon difference in the price, I'll stay with regular. An average fill-up for me is about 12 gallons. That works out to $7.80 a fill-up. Any increase in mileage that I might see doesn't seem to justify that much of an increase.

I question the value of higher octane gas. Yes you may see a slight increase MPG and acceleration. However the real test is the cost per mile not the MPG. Only my opinion.

Out of 4 tanks, original dealer tank, plus 3 that I added, I've used ethanol free in 2 tanks.
Getting about 46 MPG with regular 87 octane. Getting about 48 MPG with ethanol free. Octane unknown, to me! Other than slight increrase in mileage, I have not really noticed any big diffrences in how my truck drives.

Only if you want the extra power. Last month my math says it costs me 11.1 cents per mile with 87 & 12.2 cents per mile with 91, so it's not a huge difference, but if you have to count pennies then yes it's not worth it.
Extra power from Premium on most vehicles is barely noticeable. On my supercharged Mustang, going from 93 octane to E85 is good for over a 150HP increase. Even with the 25% loss of mpg, it is well worth running, and the fact that E85 is cheaper is a sweet bonus. Obviously there are some benefits to running premium on the Maverick, but it would be much more noticeable powerwise with a tune.

I'm surprised at how many people don't feel or notice a difference. I will say, I have only used premium in our Maverick so I can't say if there is a difference for it. However I do feel it in my Chevy Cruze, dirtbikes, motorcycles, and even the mower sounds and works better with premium. It's worth the extra money as I notice all my engines run better on premium. I race motocross and T4 racing fuel is a huge difference between pump gas. So yea, 5 extra octane can do a lot.
