Although FWIW there's no hard requirement for dealerships to honor the Costco program and many aren't due to the current auto market shortage.
Yes, from a dealership perspective the Costco program is simply an exclusive advertising source.

People love Costco and there is brand loyalty, so it gives the dealership a chance to get exclusive leads that won't go to other metro area dealers. The benefit to the customer is upfront no haggle pricing.

There's a big transfer of trust from Costco to the dealership if the dealer handles it correctly. But the dealer can honor the same pricing if you aren't a Costco member in almost all cases.

Just checked and there are no participating Ford dealers in my area of DFW.

For me it says there are no dealers near me that meet their pricing criteria for the selected manufacturer.
I just checked the Costco auto buying program for the Maverick in Albuquerque, NM and got the same response.

I first went through the Costco auto program when I was shopping for my last commuter car. I ended up doing better on my own, but I also wanted an iteration that was very unpopular, whereas I doubt any Maverick won't be unpopular.

I will say, make sure if you get the Costco price that the dealer doesn't add any dealer-installed options or "mandatory accessories" like fabric protection.

I had checked with them last week and no go for up here in the pacific northwest. I had not seen this forum yet, so this is good background info.

Couple months ago I tried the Costco Auto program for a Ranger…. The quotes from the dealer were straight MSRP for all trims

On the way out of my Costco today they had a new BMW car on display reminding members of the Costco Discount Auto program. Anybody try to order a Maverick through Costco program yet?

So I got in touch with my dealer ($1000 deposit already) to ask about the Costco program. He said they don't participate and gave some lame, long-winded explanation about how the program really doesn't mean anything more than for a fee from the dealer, Costco will recommend that dealer over another. That said, he did offer right away to knock "a few hundred off" the price to keep me happy, so I guess that's better than nothing.

I'd like to hear from anyone who manages to use the program what the savings end up being, so I can better negotiate on my end.

Your dealer is pretty much true. The dealership pays Costco to be a program participant in exchange for the leads. The program discount isn't really anything more than what, under ordinary market conditions, you could have likely negotiated yourself. With the current vehicle shortage and dealers wanting MSRP or more for their diminished inventory supply then there isn't much incentive for them to pay for customers who expect less than asking.

Costco called me Monday the 9th and said that there were no dealers in my area that had signed up for the program but the closest outside my area is in Wi. that's along way from Md. They are looking for dealers that will support their program and try again in a month or so.
