Does anyone know if there's a need for torx plus female sockets as well?
I hoping, and guessing not 😅! But as far as other areas including the undershield or skid plate, etc, since we know 3 different sizes are used in the bed, might as well pick up a set with a good range of sizes like huunvubu did so that if the torx plus shows up anywhere else, you already have the bits/sockets on hand to prevent delays in completing your project or service.
Sigh. Dammit.

Added to the list as well. I have a tool addiction :geek:

Thanks for posting this.

I installed the drop-in bedliner and the tailgate damper and was wondering why the torx bits I was using were a little loose.

I just picked up this set from amazon for $27.99 + tax

Neiko 10086A 6 Point Torx Plus Bit Socket Set, 1/4-Inch, 3/8-Inch and 1/2-Inch Drive, TP8 - TP60, 12-Piece

Neiko 10086A 6 Point Torx Plus Bit Socket Set
I bought the same set last year and it's good quality. Besides the bed Ford uses the TP for seats, engine components etc. Torx Plus use not exclusive to Ford BTW.

After a quick search here, I did not notice any mention of this type of fastener nor it's "correct" bit, which I quickly learned is NOT the same as a regular Torx screw/bit, as applying a regular torx bit could strip your torx plus OEM fasteners/screws/bolts due to the bit's loose and improper fit. And the reason I've posted here is because you'll find three different sizes of this type securing your Maverick's tie-downs, D-rings for those equipped, and also that body-color painted rear panel in the inside of the tailgate.

From: https://mellowpine.com/blog/torx-vs-torx-plus/#:~:text=Drive Angle Difference&text=The drive angle for a,unsuitable for high-speed assemblies.
What is difference between Torx and Torx Plus?

Drive Angle Difference

The drive angle for a Torx fastener is 15 degrees, whereas for Torx Plus, it is 0 degrees. This helps Torx Plus eliminate the radial stress present at the point of contact between the driver and the recess in the screw head. The drive angle in Torx makes it unsuitable for high-speed assemblies.

So basically you'll need these or other brands' equivalent. The bits fit nice and snug. I believe the D-ring bolts are T-40, so you'll also have two sizes above this as well as a few sizes smaller than the tailgate screws - a nice range in the Lisle set. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079GPZLW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details .

The Torx bolts were a problem with the Aerostar vans. If a headlight burned out the entire grill had to come off.
I didn’t have the tools for this so I started buying the bulbs at Murray’s and then taking it to the dealer. If one bulb failed they both were changed to reduce future cost. Those square bulbs did not last very long.

Aaah!! The good old Aerostars. I owned 2-3 of those things great van, got decent mpg for the time and comfortable ride. Once drove 14 hours in one day and when I arrived at destination was still ready to go. Speaking of Torx+ anyone know what size I’ll need to put on a tailgate damper. Never plan on doing anything else that requires them.

I guess that’s why they sell the multi packs.

My first Aerostar had the dove grey interior. We went through the smokies and then on to estate where the winery is. My three year old had some red grape juice. On the way back to Tennessee on the winding roads you can guess what happened. Thank god seltzer water takes out grape juice stains.

I fixed the link for everyone and took out your tracking link, so scummy. 🤡🤡🤡
So I took the time to post a set for 11.99 vs the OP's part which was 25.00 and I'm scummy ? Why would you even care ? That was the quickest way for me to get a link to the one I bought - FYI if 100 people bought a set that I posted ( which wont happen ) I might make $1.00 on that link - yeah I'm rollin in commissions.

Glad i didn't know about this when i did my bed upgrades, used regular torx with zero problems.
Even his post link said for High speed application's, so even if you use a drill and have your torque settings light you should be ok

A little loose, but did you have any problems or strip them?
