I like your design! Are you familiar with a site called instructables.com ? You should submit this ... it would probably go over really well (that is, if you wanted to share it with a more widespread audience). I think lots of ppl would love to have this.
Thank you.
I have not heard of that website. I may have to check it out.
Thank you again,

Still A Work In Progress.
I built this slide out bed mod over the last few days.
It allows you 27 in of storage same as in a smaller SUV.
It has a hinged 9 inch riser in the back so you can stack some stuff and not have it roll to the front when you stop. It also slides out over the tailgate Gap.
I was not a big fan of the 2x6 it only gave me 15 inches of storage and it wasn't high enough to stop stuff from falling over it and I still had to reach over the tailgate of the truck to put stuff in.

Glen,

This is freaking awesome. I really like this and have a few questions. Can you provide the materials used and dimensions. This would definitely be very helpful. And you said you put carpet strips on the bottom, how do you think this will slide out on a rubber bed mat? Thank you in advance for your time.

Thank You Jim,
Sorry, I really don't have exact dimensions. Roughly 47"x27" trimmed to fit between the wheel well down to 41"
The fold up riser panel 9"x41"
If you have a rubber bed mat you have the perfect template.
I used large piece of cardboard, and a pencil and magic marker for the template and I kind of eyeballed it. I used steel strapping, that I pulled out of my trash, for the curve around the wheel well transferred that to the cardboard with the magic marker.
Once I got the template done with some fine tuning.
I transferred that, to the particle board. I wanted to use plywood because it was lighter.
I wasn't going to pay the price they wanted for sheet of plywood. I saw a piece of particle board that was already missing two feet so Home Depot sold it to me for $8.50. It was originally over $17
I honestly couldn't tell you the thickness. I looked at it and thought it'd work. I bought the piano hinge at Lowe's it was about $10. The steel rod that I used to make the support brackets I bought that also at Lowe's was $2.50. The paint was $2 one of those samples or whatever that people didn't want.
With the way that I have it built with the carpet strips on the bottom.
I think it would slide the best on the bare painted floor or a plastic liner, next would be the spray in liner like I have and I think the worst would be a rubber bed mat.
Good luck
