How can I determine whether or not the paint protection I paid for was actually applied? I didn’t obtain any paperwork regarding it and it doesn’t appear to me the dealer even detailed our 2026 Maverick, let alone apply paint protection.

Only real paint protection is PPF, and you’d be able to tell if it’s there or not.

if you can’t tell, it’s not there.

I have a friend who never opts out of anything that is offered in the finance office - he buys it all paint protection, interior protection, tire protection. extended warranties, you name it he gets it.

I once asked him how long do these protection applications delay the delivery of his vehicles and he stated what I suspected “oh no delays my vehicle is always ready to drive off the lot immediately after I sign the paperwork”.

If it is a coating or any form of wax/sealant the water will bead up on the surface. Some will also feel very slick to the touch. If nothing is on the surface, water will look flat, no beading, etc. From there, water activity will diminish as the surface becomes dirty and a wash with a traditional shampoo (no protection) will help unclog the coating (if that was applied) and you should see water activity revert to beading again.

The only issue is the "coating" dealers apply (most, not all so it is important to find out what product they are using) is just a money grab. Most of these products are Si02 based (same as coatings), but at a much lower concentration. This means easier application (normally spray and wipe), but much lower durability. Check the find print on the warranty, but most ask you to come back in for cleaning and reapplication every 4-6 months. There is nothing wrong with this type of protection, but it is not a traditional coating and the amount dealers charge for these packages is simply a ripoff.

You can pick up a quality product better than what the dealership used (I.e. Gtechniq C2) and apply it easily (again spray and wipe to all exterior surfaces). A 500ml bottle is about $32 bucks. A real coating application is more labor intensive and lasts much longer than a few months.

What KIND of paint protection? Or you didn't even look? Without paperwork, you got more of a story than protection.

Was it that "Zurich Shield Elite" upsell?
