Plug ID needed on NEG battery terminal.

There is a small plug with two wires on the Negative battery terminal. Red and White wire.

Does anyone know what this is for?

That makes me wonder. I was helping a friend with their MINI cooper and found out if they had the Intelligent Battery System, then when the battery gets replaced, that it needs to be updated in the ECU by the dealer. I wonder if thats the case here for Ford.

Have you considered un-plugging it and seeing what doesn't work???

This is the sensor for the 12v Battery Monitor System (BMS). It tracks the State of Charge (SOC) of the battery to manage the charge mode of the Alternator (on the 2.0L) or the DC/DC converter on the Hybrid. If you unplug it the SOC defaults low and the charge state is not managed. The net result is more load on the alternator or converter resulting in more fuel used on the 2.0L, or more energy used from the Traction Battery on the Hybrid which can also prevent engine pull down on light throttle or decel wasting fuel. There is no benefit to disconnecting it.
