That does not sound good at all. Way to early to be fading.

Could be tied to the chemical make up of the permaplate. I've never really heard anything good about permaplate. Mostly a dealer add-on for pure profit.

Is it just one side or both? - If only a single side, any chance one side is exposed to something environmental? (Just a thought). Usually the sun can bleach out black trim, but most commonly its spray from some sort of chemical. If it's sun or o-zone, that shouldn't occur that quickly, as mentioned by Alloymaker.

My suggestion, as my current vehicle (Outback) has lots of black trim, is a pressure washer, or a self-serve car-wash that has a high-pressure wand. Once dry, use a micro-fiber and alcohol diluted with distilled water. That *should* thoroughly clean the plastic. If it's still faded, something isn't right. (I'm actually thinking wax or sealant of some sort might have been applied, and that should remove it).

What is that perma plate you mentioned? Never heard of it, but sounds like that’s the issue.

I put turtle wax seal n shine followed by spray wax on my plastics and paint and they look fine. You can use those products on rubber and plastic.

I took my last work provided vehicle (a base model 2018 Escape) through a car wash once and all its black plastic door handles did something similar. Something to do with the chemicals they use or something and they must have had a bad batch. I'd say its related to the stuff the dealer put on in your case. I couldn't get it off either or treat them back to a black color but it did eventually wear off over a few months and looked normal again.

On a side note the best thing Ive found to use to protect and make water bead off the textured black plastic areas is the spray bottle of ceramic coating., The turtle wax ice stuff or similar you can even get at Walmart works well on those area and lasts quite awhile. Its safe for the textured plastic areas, rubber exterior trim, etc.

You just got your truck! Take it right back to the dealer, it shouldn't be doing that. My Black Ranger was getting too many paint chips on the hood, I took it in, 2 years from buying and complained and Ford repainted the hood! While its bumper to bumper warranty don't let anything slide.

How often have you washed it and, when you wash it, do you run it through the automatic car wash and wax it every time? I ask because wax will build up and dull a finish if it is not wiped, or buffed off. Especially, black plastic.
The door pillars on my Grand Marquis were black but slowly turned blackish gray. When the same thing started happening on my 2015 Edge, I realized that I was getting a wax with every car wash, instead of just a basic wash.
I began wiping the car off with a micro fiber towel each time and the pillars came back to black.

HI
I run mine through a brushless wash which uses a soft water rinse. When finished I go home wipe down the truck with a micro fiber cloth and a detail spray which get at a shop that specializes in detailing. I am anal about my truck because I like a clean car and I try and keep it this way, especially since its black. Love the color, black cars are gorgeous but maintenance intensive. Not getting another one! Waiting on my Cactus Grey Maverick. Thanks for the reply, PEACE....
