North Carolina Plastic ‘Box’ Behind right rear tire - under rear quarter panel

Does anyone know what the plastic “box” behind the right rear wheel well is or what it’s purpose is? I’ve asked my dealer, but they can’t find any drawing for in the parts software and they have speculated that it’s just a” filler” designed to keep road wash, etc., from collecting behind the right rear tire and bumper area.

Yeah, that's the thing that's missing on the driver side to keep all the junk from collecting on the backside of the tail lights. It's made of plastic and the only reason I (and others) can figure out why it isn't on the driver side is because the heat from the muffler/resonator would melt it.

No clue about the part number or those specifics.

No. This is underneath the bed of the truck. (Not that it matters, I suspect, but this is thev2.0 liter, with turbo charger, XLT, FX4 with the 53H, 4K tow package.)

It’s directly in front of the rear bumper and behind the passenger side wheel well.

It's the storage cubby in the bed. Open yours and you will see you can pull the floor up for a little extra space below it.

I believe this is part of the evaporative emissions system, a similar piece on my Taurus & that is what it is on that car.

This. The storage compartment in the bed has a false floor with more storage extending down into the box you see.

I'm not sure about that, there's the cubby and then on the PAX side there's a plastic shield (looks like a box from under the truck) that keeps mud and debris from flying into the tail lights like it does on the driver side. I have an XL, no cubby and I can see the "plastic box" looking thing right behind the wheel well on my XL. I'm going to guess the reason there isn't one on the driver's side is because of the heat from the muffler.

On my XLT, there isn’t one of these plastic boxes on the driver’s side. The exhaust pipe would appear to preclude one [identical or similar to the one on the passenger side] from being spec’s/installed.
