Paint protection - what are you using?

Clay bar with Griot's Garage synthetic then Turtle wax Hybrid solution every 6 months. 303 Aerospace on the black bits every 6 weeks or so.

A highly reviewed business nearby wanted $1500.00 for ceramic coating for my Maverick with a 2 year warranty. My dealer offered something called Cilajet which they claimed was used by Boeing among others. They too asked $1500.00 but offered a five year warranty and included the seats. If I was not so excited about driving home in my new Mav, I would have at least tried to talk them down. The whole time to put on the coating was about six hours which is woefully inadequate as I have read. Live and learn.

I clay barred mine and put this on two years ago. Still looks great. Dirt washes off with ease.

Hey guys I clipped my truck against my other cars Sideview mirror it appears the clear coat got chipped I purchased a touch upkit with colorant and clear coat. Is there anything else I should be doing to fix this? Planning on getting ceramic coating done this fall.

Hey guys, what's everyone using for protection on the paint?

I had Zurich Shield applied to my Maverick from dealer when it arrived.

Cilajet ceramic coating from the dealer. As part of the process, the dealer clays the paint and wheels before applying the product. It's supposed to last 5 years.
It is super slippery and the truck looks great and I did not have to do it. I figure if it lasts 5 years, it's worth the $500 bucks if it keeps me from claying and re-waxing the truck every 6 months.

it depends on what you mean by protection.

if you mean keeping it looking shiny and clean, either regular wax applied a few times a year or a ceramic coating process, which costs far more but lasts several years, will accomplish that.

if you mean preventing or at least mitigating stone chips and minor scratches, wax and ceramic coating both offer no meaningful protection. you need paint protection film to protect the highest wear areas such as the painted front bumper, leading edge of the hood, door cups and handles. PPF ranges from 4 - 13 mil thick, while the resin topcoat in ceramic is typically 0.02 - 0.05 mil thick.

you can certainly protect the paint from some stone chips with mudflaps and/or a hood deflector as well.
