On startup this morning I had a “service vehicle soon” light on. I pulled the code and it’s a P2AB9….wastegate solenoid position sensor…solenoid stuck closed. It wouldn’t reset until I let her cool down for an hour. Of course I made an appointment with Ford. I’m at 55.8 K of my 60K powertrain warranty. Sadly the problem disappeared and worse yet, I accidentally cleared the code. So I hope Ford can still see there was a problem. Has anyone else dealt with this code/issue?

Once you clear the code, the dealer won't be able to pull it until it comes back on.

Just went through this. 2024 FX4 4K. Drivetrain malfunction code at 1,100 miles with a wrench light and limp mode. Malfunction went away after a restart and drove fine, 2 weeks later the same thing. Drove it a little harder for a month thinking maybe it was a break-in issue. Then another drivetrain malfunction, wrench light limp mode. Only this time it didn't go away after a restart, revved it up a little trying to get the wastegate to open and it threw a service engine light code, wastegate stuck shut, stayed in limp mode. Dropped it off at the dealer on a Thursday morning, they called me that afternoon and said they had to order a wastegate actuator. Picked it up the following Tuesday. Doesn't seem to be a common issue yet, no dealers are keeping that part in stock, have only found a few other occurrences online.

Actually they can see EVERYTHING, thank goodness....lol. I know this because I'm tight with my service advisor at my dealer. They pull up your vehicle in the system and can see anything that has been done to anything. Including me flashing my tunes to the ECU......The service tech checked out my solenoid and assured me I'm good to go as it was just a hiccup. BTW, if y'all didn't know this.....from 36K to 60K the only things covered in your Ford factory powertrain warranty are "internal, lubricated parts".....that was news to me.

Well mine went back in the shop today. The second wastegate actuator is beginning to fail after a week. My deduction is a binding waistgate that's causing the actuator to go bad. I think it needs a turbo assembly but I bet Ford says another actuator.

I have the wastegate stuck closed code. Freaking sucks…..I am at 61600 miles. This is my second maverick, liked the first one so much I ordered this one. Eco boost fx4 tow package. Its my wife’s truck, so I know it’s been driven harsh.

pretty annoying when stuff goes bad right after the warranty runs out. @Ford Motor Company

Well my third wastegate actuator that they installed in May is still working. I don't even think I've hit 3000 Miles yet.

And they never thought about changing the whole turbo? My dealer already talked about that if it won't be fixed with the actuator.

My right actuator extends all the way and then gives the "service soon" and if I wait long enough also the check engine light. I'm able to temporarily fix it by pushing it back in a little by hand which makes it act normal again untill I do a bit longer pull, then it comes back and my boost drops. It's very eratic btw, sometimes no boost, sometime a little and very jumpy etc, not at all fun to drive.

I was told by my service writer, Ford will throw multiple actuators at the Maverick before changing the turbo. The actuators are cheap and take far less labor. To change the turbo you have to pull the right side hub, half shaft, drive shaft, exhaust and the PTU before you can even get the turbo out the bottom.

That sounds like quite a lot of work indeed... Don't know if it's the same on a Ranger, but if it ever comes to that, I would like to have the turbo for 1 of my BMW's with a compound turbo project haha.
My actuator will be replaced tomorrow. I wasn't able to recreate the fault again in the meantime.
