Overfilling your gas tank issues!

I used to work at a gas station, and usually whenever you would have to hold the handle because it would keep clicking off, it was an issue with your fuel vapor canister or something like that. Basically if air is not being drawn out of the fuel tank while it is being filled, it will cause the nozzle to think it is full and it will click off. The easiest way to tell if it was your vehicle or the station's fault is to look at the nozzle end and look for a thin metal strip and if it isn't there, then it has a defective auto shutoff. Also, from personal experience on Ford vehicles, this can happen if you fill up with fuel while the engine is running or when the fuel pump is active.
