I seem to get about 37mpg on average over almost 6,000 miles.

This morning while crossing the valley, though, I tapped to current trip out of idle curiosity:

Mmm yeah, No. That’s not accurate. It’s only a spot in time sample.
Come back when you have a full tank’s worth of miles on the meter and divide that by the gallons pumped and tell us what it is.

The 80.9 mpg shown is just to make the owner feel good. Think of it as your Maverick flirting with you by flashing a nip.

I've been playing with hyper mileing for short distances and have achieved 70-90mpg. I expect this comes out one of two ways.
- if you are generally going down the whole time then you are just coasting a lot
- if on relatively flat ground then I think you are just front loading energy off your next trip. the trip before the record trip you charged up the hybrid battery, then on this trip you used up that stored energy and next time you drive it you will start with nothing in the battery.
Trips like this are fun but doesn't mean a whole lot when framed against the whole tank of gas.

On downhill mountain driving, my AWD ‘25 XLT onboard diagnostics said I got the equivalent of more than 90 mpg a couple of times … just short distances and with a lot of coasting. Other times, with a cold engine and driving less than a mile I sometimes get less than 5 mpg. Overall, my gobuggy, with 12,400 miles, has averaged a bit more than 34 mpg, which includes a lot of highway driving. I’m happy.

For this specific trip of 8.8 miles you did 7 of those miles on electric (about 80%) so that could easily equate to 80+ mpg.

Haahaa, but, did it make you feel goooood?

Just sayin there are some who would always look to take a down hill route, with the wind behind them....even when going up to the ski lifts 😉😁

The mpg calculating computer is much like a video game that you participate in.
Use correct perspective!

Last week my Maverick travelled to the end of the Milky Way galaxy and back on 1/8 tank of gas.
Do you have the nuclear powered ion engine with flux capacitor upgrade?
I didn't see those as available options on the XL trim...

In general yes, I agree.

Here is the one tip hybrid drivers have been posting about for 25 years.

If you can, drive that last mile (or two!) before parking for the night on all electric.

You WANT to park overnight with an empty hybrid battery. The next day, the engine, once started, is going to run for 2 to 5 minutes to warm itself up. It can run and do nothing. Or it can run and RECHARGE while warming up.

Get nothing for warming up?
Or get a simultaneous recharge while warming up?

Variation: you can also make sure you drive the FIRST mile (or two) the next day on electric only. Point is, you want an empty-ish battery during the warm-up cycle.

Exception: park with a fully charged hybrid battery if the vehicle will be parked for more than a few days in a row. You can fully charge the battery by driving that last mile (or two) in Tow/haul mode.
