@Chops - Does your vehicle show up with this TSB in a VIN search. (Mine Doesn't.)

Do you think this is why your MPG is [seemingly] much lower? I use Sport and Lobo regularly, and I have a heavy foot, and WOT happens.. ;)
I'm not babying mine and playing the 'can I hold 1300 RPM' game to hyper-mile by any means. (Well, I did for fun, once...It is a legit good practice of throttle control.)

I'll check my dipstick later today..
I don’t know if TSB’s get attached to a VIN like a Recall will? Anyway, I search the TSB’s on the Ford website occasionally to keep up to date on issues - and discovered the oil dilution one.

Good point about a mpg hit - I did not think of that.

BTW, is your Lobo in the 10/24 to 5/25 build date window for this TSB?

Thanks - fixed my “typo”. Actually a brain fart. Oil cap smells of gas in addition to gas cap:)

This TSB covers all of Job 1 ecoboosts - maybe even some of Job 2. Some folks (like you) avoided the 25 & bought a 24 to avoid these early model problems;)
I guess it's better than having the gas cap smell like oil

Checked my oil level, looks fine (midway in the hatch marks, between Min and Max).
Looked like oil, smelled like oil.

Removed the oil fill cap, smelled it, smells about like what I'd expect, no Obvious or Strong Gasoline smell to me.

Other than finding a latex glove sitting on top of my engine at the oil fill cap...it looked pretty normal.
No idea how long that glove had been sitting there, probably since the Radiator change.

I was mostly checking my coolant level, and still find that when its Cold, its slightly below the MIN mark.
I brought my vehicle into Service a few weeks ago to ask about it, and they didn't do anything at that time other than unscrew the cap and release the pressure, and observed that in doing so it brought it up to the MAX fill line at that time.

So, I don't have a level of oil over what the dip stick says it should have in fact it a little bit
Agree that gas in your oil hurts your engine hugely if ignored & Honda had a huge problem with it.

However, Ford is raising the TSB red flag immediately for us 2025 EB owners within that 10/24 to 5/25 build date window.

For those of us in that window it is important to watch for symptoms and don’t neglect oil changes! Oil Dilution gets reset back to zero when you change your oil.

Since I have the symptom of gas smell on my oil cap - I am going to send in an oil sample for analysis soon. I can show it to my Ford Dealer if it shows unacceptable level of gas in my oil.

I’ll bump the thread as I get more info and probably a new fuel pump etc to fix the problem before doing long term damage. Both to my Maverick & Ford’s reputation like Honda suffered!
low, but my question what smell do you have. When I open the cap up I have a smell but I wouldn't call it gas in oil, but I'm not % either. Any insight you can give would be great.

When I did my first oil change at 1000mi, the oil cap & dipstick had the very distinct smell of gasoline.

I put in 5.5qts of fresh synthetic Motorcraft 5W-30 and the dipstick had subtle smell of oil - almost like extra virgin olive oil. Added .5qt next day…

I’d say you don’t have a dilution problem since you can’t EASILY identify a gas odor. That said, it won’t hurt to sniff your cap every few weeks when you’re checking the oil level. Make sure no one is watching:)

Is your build date between the 10/24 and 5/25 TSB dates? Just curious - thanks!

Edit…been 3 months since my oil change & the gas smell is definitely there again.

Yes, my build date was in early March. I have over 4100 miles on my truck and plan to go in for an old change at 5000 miles and 5000 from now on too. I didn't do a oil change at 1000 miles like you did, but that is neither here nor there now.
Do you have any idea what Ford is doing to fix this problem?

I checked my Oil and the cap Today the Level was the same as Yours on the Dipstick and smelled fine. And the Oil cap smelled like Yours with no Obvious Gas Smell.

M daddy,
Don’t you hate posts that start like that ?

My daddy told me to never ever buy a first run car or engine. I’ve always tried to buy the model that’s going out. It has a track record you can review.

I pushed the limit with my 2024 on purpose.
Last build, almost the last 2024 new on the lot.
Driven home on 12/31/24
@10,000 miles now and not a single issue.
FWIW the 2.0 EB that's in the 2025 Mavericks has been in the Escape since 2023 and Darryl said he hasn't heard of any problems with them.

Oil dilution will remarkably shorten engine life.
.
.
Honda performed a software update to lower the gasoline quantity and pressure into the cylinders when the engine was cold.
Yep, that oil dilution problem really hurt Honda’s reputation.

Do you know if their software update was done “Over The Air” stating simply “to improve engine performance” or were owners requested to visit a dealer for an update & explanation?

I know many many vehicles were affected on that popular engine!

Do you have any idea what Ford is doing to fix this problem?
The TSB advises the tech to “use Pinpoint Test HP located in the Workshop Manual, Section 303-04A. If no DTCs are stored in the PCM, proceed from Step HP1 to Step HP5 and continue testing.”

TSB goes on to say “…if fuel injection pump replacement is required, use causal part number 9D376”

That OEM fuel injection pump is around $400 & labor maybe $300+? I’m assuming this TSB will be covered by warranty.

The TSB also noted to replace any other components that were damaged due to fuel pump leak etc - but to use coding separate from the TSB.

How did You clean Your oil cap when You changed the oil at 1,000 miles to get the gas smell off of it?
Quick wipe with a rag if I recall. Oil cap was quite a bit smaller than my previous Toyota or GMC. Maverick easier to tighten/seat properly I find:)

Not sure if the 2025 Maverick 2.0 is identical in every way to the original 2023 version. But fuel pump suppliers may have changed and the batches of parts are definitely different.

So after the wipe with the rag You had no more gas smell on the Oil Cap? Gas smell is usually pretty hard to get rid of.
