Agree that gas in your oil hurts your engine hugely if ignored & Honda had a huge problem with it.

Since I have the symptom of gas smell on my oil cap - I am going to send in an oil sample for analysis soon. I can show it to my Ford Dealer if it shows unacceptable level of gas in my oil.
And this is where I think Blackstone oil analysis is a pile of crap.
I sent in my oil sample to Blackstone (on my Honda back in 2018) when my oil level was more than a half quart higher than when I changed it. Blackstone reported less than 3% diluted oil. I knew it was a false analysis since I had about 20% gasoline in my oil.

They don’t actually measure gasoline in the lab, they allegedly heat the oil until it burns and use a fake math calculation to estimate gas in the oil.

I’m not telling anyone not to test their oil but this was my personal experience. And for that I don’t bother testing oil anymore.

Oil dilution will remarkably shorten engine life. Gasoline is a wonderful solvent and easily strips oil of it’s lubrication properties.
Definitely is, and one of the reasons most mechanics recommend 5K oil changes on modern* engines so the oil is at least being changed more frequently if there is some minor dilution. Usually it is fuel from extremely high pressure direct injection seeping past the piston rings, which are also under less tension for less friction (fuel economy). I am curious what the ecoboost TSB is about, or how they will fix it.

I placed an asterisk next to modern engines because the 2.5L hybrid is practically a dinosaur in that respect with port injection and naturally aspirated, a good thing in my opinion.

This is a simple case of a mechanical fuel pump leaking fuel inside the engine. Back in the days of carburetors when every car had a mechanical fuel pump, this was a common failure. Fortunately , most of the time it would also leak externally. So you’d realize you had a problem before engine damage occurred

Only if there’s a problem. A tsb is there to help the tech find and the problem more quickly. There are several potential causes for fuel in the oil. The tsb simply directs us to the most likely cause and solution right away In the event a problem occurs.

A few weeks ago I posted that my oil cap smelled of gasoline during my 1000mi break in oil change. The consensus was ā€œrelax - it is normalā€. I relaxed. Until today.

I noticed a TSB for oil dilution caused by the high pressure fuel delivery system for EB’s built from 10/24 to 5/25. My build date is 3/25.

I also sniffed my oil cap this AM - yep, I can smell the gasoline. So when I leave my Lobo for the radiator recall, I’ll have Ford replace my fuel pump too. In the meantime I’ll change oil every 3 months…

Edit - gas cap to oil cap
Chops, when you posted about sniffing your oil cap a few weeks ago, I pictured a guy with some weird fetish, who dressed up like little bo peep and went out and sniffed strange things. I would like to formally apologize for doubting you and allowing my brain to go to odd places šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Sorry, new to all this. Where or how do you find the build date if your vehicle?

My Mav was built in March. I sniffed the oil cap and the dipstick and there is definitely a gas smell.

For comparison I did the same for my 19 Vette, which has direct injection and no gas smell.

Guess it time for a dealer visit on Monday.

There are a couple of stickers on the driver’s door jamb when you open the door. The lower white sticker will give the month/year of your build.

@Chops - Does your vehicle show up with this TSB in a VIN search. (Mine Doesn't.)

Do you think this is why your MPG is [seemingly] much lower? I use Sport and Lobo regularly, and I have a heavy foot, and WOT happens.. ;)
I'm not babying mine and playing the 'can I hold 1300 RPM' game to hyper-mile by any means. (Well, I did for fun, once...It is a legit good practice of throttle control.)

I'll check my dipstick later today..
