A few weeks ago I posted that my oil cap smelled of gasoline during my 1000mi break in oil change. The consensus was “relax - it is normal”. I relaxed. Until today.

I noticed a TSB for oil dilution caused by the high pressure fuel delivery system for EB’s built from 10/24 to 5/25. My build date is 3/25.

I also sniffed my oil cap this AM - yep, I can smell the gasoline. So when I leave my Lobo for the radiator recall, I’ll have Ford replace my fuel pump too. In the meantime I’ll change oil every 3 months…

Thanks - fixed my “typo”. Actually a brain fart. Oil cap smells of gas in addition to gas cap:)

This TSB covers all of Job 1 ecoboosts - maybe even some of Job 2. Some folks (like you) avoided the 25 & bought a 24 to avoid these early model problems;)

Must not be a problem on mine, I checked my oil level and it is 1/2 quart low. Hope it is just from break in.
Yep - gas in your oil will raise the dipstick level not lower it like yours.
My level has been in the middle of dipstick since 6qts put in 3 months ago,

I’m also not experiencing “extended crank”. My baby fires right up.

It is the smell of gas in the oil that is my red flag - and my 3/25 build date is before the fix in 5/25.

Here is what the TSB says:
“ . This may be due to an internal fuel leak of the fuel injection pump causing fuel to enter the crankcase and reduce fuel pressure in the high pressure fuel rail”.

2025 has the new port/direct injection system. If I were going to pick an area of concern/TSB/Recall - I’d pick this. Oh well, I anticipated issues with a new engine model:)

Oil dilution will remarkably shorten engine life. Gasoline is a wonderful solvent and easily strips oil of it’s lubrication properties.

I was part of a class-action lawsuit against Honda for severe oil dilution in their 2017 CRV. The oil on the dipstick would rise over time. Honda performed a software update to lower the gasoline quantity and pressure into the cylinders when the engine was cold.

In the end we got a few extra years on our engine warranty and the lawyers got 50 million.

Agree that gas in your oil hurts your engine hugely if ignored & Honda had a huge problem with it.

However, Ford is raising the TSB red flag immediately for us 2025 EB owners within that 10/24 to 5/25 build date window.

For those of us in that window it is important to watch for symptoms and don’t neglect oil changes! Oil Dilution gets reset back to zero when you change your oil.

Since I have the symptom of gas smell on my oil cap - I am going to send in an oil sample for analysis soon. I can show it to my Ford Dealer if it shows unacceptable level of gas in my oil.

I’ll bump the thread as I get more info and probably a new fuel pump etc to fix the problem before doing long term damage. Both to my Maverick & Ford’s reputation like Honda suffered!

I think the problem was fixed halfway through Job 2. Job 3 started in 9/25 I think. So Job 1 and half of Job 2 had the issue. I’m just guessing a supplier’s batch of parts?

I’m sure there are a couple Ford Corp Maverick nerds or nerdettes that read the forum occasionally but are prohibited from contributing due to NDA’s etc. Shame that they can’t offer insights into how to best care for our Maverick garage buddies.

My daddy,
Don’t you hate posts that start like that ?

My daddy told me to never ever buy a first run car or engine. I’ve always tried to buy the model that’s going out. It has a track record you can review.

I pushed the limit with my 2024 on purpose.
Last build, almost the last 2024 new on the lot.
Driven home on 12/31/24
@10,000 miles now and not a single issue.

My build date is 1/27/25. I was out sniffing my oil fill cap at 630 am like a psychopath. No extended cranks. Oil level normal. But I think maybe, possibly I am smelling gas? I’m not sure if i can tell the difference between oil and gas. I’ve done 1000 oil changes in my life and never took note of the smell. Also, my nose is old.
Edit: I was sniffing old oil and my gas cap to compare. Still can’t tell. But now I feel higher than a hippie at Woodstock.
