I always tell newly YouTube certified mechanics to have a back up plan. Like a a way to get a rental car, or a way to tow it to the dealer. Sometimes a job isn’t as easy as it looks on line. It just happens the 3 seconds they skipped over was a Mutha &@“@!&. You’re correct though! Many things can be done easily at home. If you’ve got the tools, time, and space you can fix just about anything.

my Prius suspension replacement cost me $650 compared to $4,400 at the dealer. Front Struts, sway bar links, sway bar bushings, rear springs, rear shocks, front lower control arms and ball joint, inner/outer tie rod ends.

Lol yesterday I was doing rear brakes/rotors and parking brakes on my 05 explorer. The video I was going by shows a simple technique for installing a spring on the parking brake shoes. There was no way in hell that spring was going in the way they had showed. I had to invent a different way of installing the shoes. It all worked out but it was quite the challenge figuring it out.

During the job I put it in neutral to realign the hub so the spring would pop in. Put it back in park then later went back to put it in neutral again and I could not move the shifter out of park. Panic ensues - I imagined that I had inadvertently wrecked the transmission, would have to call for a tow, etc., until I realized I just had to push the brake pedal to unlock the shifter.

And who said wrenching wasn't fun?

Im in South Florida and changed my oil 2 weeks ago. Paid $104 Total with tire rotation. This is not synthetic. I was surprised with the cost.

I still think for $75 The Works package is not a bad price for a full inspection and tire rotation plus oil change with Motorcraft oil, I just hope the tech is being paid well for the labor.

My dealership gives me the package at a 50% discount for all vehicles purchased there. Which is why my C-Max went to the dealership while under warranty. This truck will as well, at least for the first three years.

Be aware that some dealerships have entry level oil and tire changers. They are far from being trained, certified mechanics.

Is it really over $100 for a dealership oil change!!??

Just did mine (2.0) at 1500 miles mainly because of a hint of gas in the oil. Used Amazon 5w-30 full synthetic and a Ford Fl910s filter. Got 6 qts oil and filter for $26 from Amazon. Filters are $3.97 but understand the FL910s is hard to get. I will be stocking up along with toilet paper. BTW torx size for under cover shield screws is T27 on AWD (non FX4). Think FX4 is T30.

Thanks for posting this. I live in the same area as you. You saved me a lot of time calling the dealers. The other day I went to Chevrolet for an all change. They told me it was around $135.00. They could not tell me the full price until it was done. Imagine that.
