Renewed tags this morning. Daughters hybrid was extra $100 Mavericks tags were same as my beater F150, no extra $100 that I was expecting on it?

They didn’t “catch” mine either. I’m not complaining and certainly not letting anyone know. Still funny to me that hybrids are taxed extra even though my 91 Camry got the same MPG average I’m getting now.

My biggest gripe is the same as yours, I’m getting 13 more mpg than my escape, which is great, but it’s not like we’re not buying any fuel? Total electric is extra $200/year. The amounts for the tag fees are screwed up

Montana tags are like $500+ a year. Or for me, $50 for the first year and free every year after.

I think the non-commercial truck classification over rode the Hybrid. I just got my tags for our hybrid Maverick and our Hybrid Kia Sportage. The Kia got hit with the $100 fee, but the Maverick didn't.

I can remember in Ohio it was a 5 dollar title fee and 10 dollar tag fee and all you had to have was an Ohio address

Wish it was still that way
Pay “title fee” here when you buy the car, but doing the electronic ones here, so when the lien is paid, costs you another $5 to actually get the title from the title office 🙄. Our county has an additional $15 fee over and above the state fee. $61.50/year for trucks

I got my maverick back in early 2022, and when I registered it the clerk didn't even find Maverick in her options. All she could find was that it was a half ton pickup and asked if it was gas or diesel. I said gas. It was registered for the same price as my F150. Renewed this year for the same price. I don't think the state will ever know.

But to the point in Ohio, it's a grift by the state who were anti electric cars to jack up the registration prices. But the hybrid was purposefully listed as the drive train rather than fuel source. The entire maverick runs on gas that already had fuel taxes. There is no plug in option hybrid. Which is what that $100 was meant to cover. It's a joke but the legislature will not be in the business of rewarding people buying efficient vehicles.
