Can I connect my G40 directly to the 12v battery and then plug the USB charging cable into the rear seat usb port? Will running the truck keep the G40 topped up and ready to boost the 12v battery when necessary or will it drain the 12v?

Plugging the GB40 into the USB port will keep it charged and ready to go.

When you stop the truck it will continue to charge from the 12v battery until the USB charger shuts off. This will drain your battery.

Not much but it may put you into the position where you need to use it more frequently which is what I think you’re trying to avoid.

Good evening, @Geep

I apologize in advance for my lengthy reply.

Seems like a heck of a question, as I am hearing crickets right now, here.

I have been thinking about your question for the last half hour or so, and simple answer to me is...if you want to hook youe G40 up permanently it is your truck so I suppose you can. There may be issues having it plugged in all the time as it could drain your battery. I will not comment further and leave it to others with more knowledge to jump in if they figure they know the answer.

But, I will try to work through your question as best I can and maybe come up with another option for you to consider.

My question is why do you want to install it permanently? A number of regular members here have installed good quality battery chargers under the bonnet (ones appropriate for their SLA/FLA/AGM batteries). Canadian Tire has lots of good options to consider if you want.

They attached them permanently and connected them to the boost points under the hood. This allows them to recharge/reset the BMS etc when they see fit with no wiring in the cab itself and no extra wires in the way at the battery itself if it needs changing.

I think if I remember correctly, the manual gives clear direction as to hooking wires up at the battery, and where NOT to hook up wires. Might be a good idea to check the manual about that, but I imagine you have already, but it doesn't hurt to say it again just in case.

The battery charger helps to maintain your battery in peak condition as opposed to using the Noco as a last chance start assist once the battery fails. Which you probably will have with you, anyways.

A good idea to help monitor your 12 volt battery condition in your Maverick is to get a little 12 volt indicator that goes into the cigarette lighter power port. (I asked my wife for one for my birthday next month...I don't need much to be happy ;-) Just keep in mind that they usually indicate about .2 volts lower than actual due to line resistance between the battery and the port.

Our Li booster packs are super handy and portable. They charge up quickly and hold a large amount of energy with no loss for a long time.

I myself have a note in my calendar to check, drain and recharge (cycle) my 2 booster packs every 3 months, and they are in great shape when I have used them to aid others when their batteries have failed. My oldest is 8 years old and still working great. They are incredible in holding their charge.

I keep them stored under the back seat for ease of access in a time of need.

So, there are my thoughts. I hope this helps you out, and at the very least if anyone else actually reads this post, someone will jump in to slam some of my thoughts and then, maybe, contribute a thought or 2 to help you out with whatever you decide to do!

Have a good one,

Andy

I installed a GBC007 boost adapter cable which I wired under the hood in the same manner suggested by @SafetyGuy.

https://no.co/gbc007

This allows you a secure manner to plug directly into your booster and not worry about the alligator clips slipping off.

It comes with an adapter which would also allow you to directly plug in a Noco Genius5 smart battery charger.

I hardwired my Genius5 directly to the battery and made a direct connection in the left rear wheel well.

Hope this answers your question.

My Ford AGM is now 13 months old.
I got a $7 VOM from Harbor Freight, and a
Noco Genius ONE for $30 At Wally World.

Twice a month I take an at rest for 24 hours voltage reading.
The Genius goes on overnight about every other time when I get a VDC reading below 12.2
If I start catching lower than 12 volt readings more often a new battery goes in.

There is no way around it. These Mavericks are voltage Vampires.

I’m good.

As for the G40 booster,

The last jump I needed was back about 1980
Haven’t needed one since, I do monitor and maintain my battery’s carefully.
And at the first sign of trouble out it goes.

The next time I need a jump, I carry cables, always have.
I’ll get a booster.
Been saying that for a long time. It will happen.

So true, I also monitor my batteries and maintain ALL of them.

As in pretty much all things, take care of them and they will take care of you.

NO need.

I carry a Noco GB 40 under back seat on my 2023 hybrid It stays charged a LONG time. No need to connect it to car to keep it charged. I checked mine a week ago. I charged it for a little it was almost fully charged and last time I checked it was mid summer.

As others have said, not sure about hooking it up permanently. As far as your question about draining the battery with the Noco when the car is shut off, there is a setting in forscan you can adjust for the time it takes to shutoff 12v accessories. The default on most of the Mavericks is 75minutes. I changed mine to 2 minutes so I can leave my charging pad I added and a cigarette lighter adapter that shows me voltage plugged in and not worry they are draining the 12v battery.
