I know this is a lot of reading, and probably a bore for many of you, but I have to find something to dream on while waiting for my Hybrid Maverick :D First, a little backstory. I'm an audio nut, and I LOVE my music. I drive 50K+ miles a year, and the tunes are going the whole time. I like sound quality, and don't care whether or not cars beside me can hear it too. My current car is a 2016 focus(with 250k on it) with Infinity Kappa Perfect components up front, and Infinity Kappa Perfect coaxials in the rear. I also have an Infinity 10" sub. It is all run through a Rockford Fosgate DSR1 DSP connected to a 5 channel amp. The sub will get pulled, but won't make it to the Maverick due to air space requirements. I'm probably going to leave the mids and highs in the car, since I want to try something different, and don't want to monkey with pulling door panels and putting factory back in. I'd also have to re-modify things to make the factory stuff fit again. I don't have my Maverick yet, but it's scheduled to be built July 3. I figured I would get a jump on the audio build now, so I can get the stuff along the way.

Today, I started ordering some things for the Maverick. I decided I was going to buck the Morel/Focal trend and try something different. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those. I actually love Morel stuff. Anywho, I ordered some Dynaudio Esotan 232 components for up front. Most of the people know Dynaudio from home audio circles, but they're good stuff. Woofersetc has some of the MK1 sets on sale for a smoking price(for Dynaudio). I also ordered some DD Audio 4" coaxials to go in the rear pillars. I don't like mixing speaker brands on the highs(voice matching reasons), but in the case of the rears, I don't think it will matter much. They're more for a little rear fill anyway.

What I have to order: A lot of sound deadening. I'll probably go with the Stinger Stealth mat, since it is all black and I will be covering that rear wall with it. I'll also need to get some wiring stuff, and speaker adapters for the front doors. I'm thinking I'm going to mount the tweeters in the little panels above the main door panel(A pillar covers?), which is the factory location on my current car. I'll disconnect the factory dash tweeters. Right now, I'm leaning towards going with an Image Dynamics IDQ-8 V.4 D4 for the sub that will be mounted under the rear seat. I may wait on ordering the sub, until I can get my hands on the truck to see if I can come up with any creative ways to get more air space for an efficient 10" sub while still keeping the install clean? I like to keep my audio stuff tidy and as close to factory looking as possible. Also, it is a work vehicle, so I don't want to give any extra space if possible.

In summary, the whole audio setup should be:
-Dynaudio Esotan 232 components up front
-DD Audio Digital Designs D-X4b in rear
-Rockford Fosgate DSR1 DSP(in current car)
-Soundstream PN5.640D 5 channel Amplifier(in current car)
**I know the Soundstream doesn't seem to be of the same caliber as the other compents, but it is
one of the best bang for the buck digital amps out there. It only pulls 40 amps at most, and sounds
pretty darn good/clean. It has served me well so far anyway. I'll upgrade if needed later.
-Image Dynamics IDQ-8 V.4 D4 for the sub(2 ohm should get it 350 watts),
-Sound deadening on/in the doors, back wall, in the pillars, and anywhere else that looks like it needs
it. I may do the rear doors too, just help get that interior as quiet as possible.

I think that about covers it for now. If you guys can think of anything I'm missing or forgetting, please chime in! I welcome all input, good or bad. Again, sorry for the long post, but I can only dream about what I'm going to do, until the truck shows up(hopefully in August).

I think Henry did the same thing to the first Model T that came off the line. Edison did the sound system for him. He perfected the car so he could play his tunes without spooking the horse pulling his buggy.

Hey, you were warned about it being boring... I made a boring post, and you contributed nothing to it, so I guess that makes us even:ROFLMAO: Well, at least you have a truck :(

Dynaudio 7" midbass was common in high-end SQ cars 20-25+ years ago. I remember they were bought by a Chinese company a while back and their home audio continued but I haven't heard a thing about their carfi.

Bringing your dsp over will be a very good idea.

Have you heard those components you want to use? If you haven't, that's a lot to pay for something that you haven't auditioned in person but I get it, sometimes that's the only thing you can do. Hell many people on this site, including me, ordered a Maverick without being able to test drive or even see one in person. But for $1300 I'd get a Focal KX2 which I have heard in person.

For the sub if you want a 10" there's a very good pre-made box designed by Chris Hilbert of Sound Decisions. Here's a truck with an early one, the top trim/cover looks a bit different on the new ones. https://mavericktruckin.com/forum/index.php?threads/lowered-23-hybrid-photo-heavy.148/

It's 0.8ft3 gross and has 7" depth so that's probably enough for IDQ10, Alpine R2 10", JL 10w3, and others. You can easily build your own box for a IDQ8, the specs are similar to the Alpine R2 8" I use if you want to look at my thread to see the box dimensions, how to modify the plastic tub insert, etc. What I did is under $50 in materials. Chris' box is waaaay better and of course, costs more.

I really do appreciate the input Colin! I read a lot of your post on your setup, before I made this one, btw. Good info! The Dynaudio Components I ordered were on sale, because they have come out with the MKII version, which I don't think they're selling here in the states. I know I'm taking a gamble on on them, but they aren't something I can demo, and I'm hoping some of that Dynaudio magic is there. I only paid $329 for them, so nowhere close to the price of the Focal KX2s! That's way past my budget :(
https://www.woofersetc.com/c-172-sp...-70w-rms-2-way-component-speakers-system.html

I just called Sound Decisions and they told me their enclosure is .6 cubic feet. They could have made some changes since that first one was built? Anyway, the price on that enclosure is $325 plus shipping to GA. The other option is the GroundShaker which is only .45 cubic feet, but it is $215 and looks like it sits lower in the storage area and doesn't go across to the middle area any like the SD box does. Building my own is definitely looking better and better. I have the ability, and have always built my own in the past. I'm strongly considering going with an Audison APS 10D 10" sub, because it is shallow mount and only needs .35-.45 cubic feet of air space. All of the numbers on that sub are quite impressive considering how small of an enclosure it can work in. It should work pretty well by the numbers at least. I do love the Image Dynamics subs(have owned a few), and haven't ruled them out yet. The numbers on your Alpine are quite good as well.

I totally agree with you on the DSP! I will never do another setup without one. It was a game changer in my focus. I like the control I have with the 31 band EQ, and the control over individual speaker crossover points/levels. The sub EQ is real nice too to get the bass under control and tame the peaks and dips. That little Rockford Fosgate DSR1 is quite the "magic box", haha. It looks like the biggest thing I need to decide right now is going to come down to the sub and enclosure I choose to go with. If the enclosure size wasn't at question, it would be best to go with a midrange sub with a higher efficiency(like my current setup). The higher efficiency would really benefit my little 5 channel amp's 350w sub output. Odds are, I'll order that Audison sub later tonight. Right now it looks like my best compromise of SQ/air space/ and overall flexibility.

I ended up building my own box for my 10” sundown sd2 Sub I took out of my old truck. It calls for .5 cu ft. Here are some pics. I made it out of 1/2” mdf to get the cu ft I needed. I had to cut the bottom of the plastic bin out then made a cover piece to go on top of the box to finish everything off.

Nice work, that looks great! It looks like it belongs there! I restrained myself from ordering the Audison sub just yet, even though I know it should work well. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to build my own enclosure too. I'm just trying to decide which direction I want to go with the sub really. I like SQ, and that requires the ability to play low notes sometimes, and I don't mean kick drums. Most of the subs I've considered will work well with the amount of space available in the storage area under the seat for sure. I'm just worried I'll end up with a sub that falls on it's face when things dip below 35-40Hz. I know there's isn't a lot of music that plays that low, but some of mine does.

How do you like the sound with your sub? I have a crazy idea out of left field I'm considering trying. It just so happens I have an 8" sub and passive radiator that came from a HT sub that the amp croaked on. It's not a cheap crappy one either. It had a frequency response well into the 20's, and amazing SQ with an enclosure around .5 cubic feet. Cabin gain in a car would do nothing but help the low end. The downside is I have to figure out how to make the sub/passive layout fit the Maverick with a custom enclosure. The other downside is it will require a lot of juice, so I'd have to abandon using my 5 channel for everything and get a dedicated sub amp capable of 1000w RMS😬. The amp that was driving the HT sub was 1200w RMS, and that little sub ate it up. I think I'm going to wait until I get the truck in my hands to see what I can come up with on the enclosure front. If I can save a lot of money on another sub, then I can put that towards a solid little digital mono amp for the sub. At least, that's what I'm thinking right now.

Do you have any pictures of where you cut out the bottom of the storage bin? I'm curious how much extra space that gave you, and what you did specifically. Thanks for the input! The more info I get, the better! I've read through a lot of the posts on here, but my eyes are starting glaze over, haha. I'm just trying not to let myself jump the gun on something, until I'm pretty sure that's what I'll want. Figuring it all out is half the fun though!

I’m still on the process of doing the system so the sub isn’t hooked up. I took pics of pretty much everything I did so far besides what I cutout of the plastic bin lol but I cutout pretty much everything but the top pieces you see in my pics.
Here’s a pic of the amp rack that’s just on a scrap piece of mdf I will cut a new piece when I get everything figured out.

Nice! If your job on the sub is any indication, I'm sure that amp rack is going to turn out really well. After I looked closer, I think I can see where you cut it on the picture without the top piece on the enclosure. How much extra depth did you gain making that cut? I really want to try using that sub and passive I have, because I think it will be pretty awesome for a single 8" sub, and will hit lows that 8's don't normally hit with the cabin gain. My DSP has a separate EQ just for the sub, so I should be able to get it tuned pretty flat.

I like to do stuff different, but my issue is going to be having enough space to mount the 8 and the passive on the top of the enclosure. I don't know if I'll be able to get the 8 close enough to the edge, because the magnet is as large as the speaker cone. It will be close, but darn cool if I can make it fit...

This is going to be a great build! I am very interested in the sound deadening. Are you also doing it some to the doors?

Oh yeah, I'm going to do the doors and the back wall. If I have extra I will do the rear doors. I have a 36 square foot bulk pack that I'm hoping will be enough to get the major bits done. I intend to use every bit that I have. The sound deadening really does make quite a difference, if done correctly. It will be a while, before I can get it all done, since my truck is scheduled to get built on July 3. Hopefully, I can jump on it sometime in August.

It will be close, but darn cool if I can make it fit...
not sure exactly what the extra depth was but once i get a sec I will measure the bin without the plastic and the one with the plastic to let you know. My sub box is 7.5” deep and the cover piece is made from 1/2” mdf so with that piece plus the box its 8” tall just so you can get an idea looking at the pics. I didn’t want to go any taller then 7.5” for the box as the bottom of the seat Is about a inch from my subwoofer since my sub has such a thick rubber surround.

Cool, that makes sense. Certainly don't want that sub banging on the bottom of the seat!

My plan is to start with the back wall and see where noise is coming from after that and attack it there. I just want it slightly less noisy. All that said, I don't even have the truck scheduled lol
