A REAL upgrade would the ability to install aftermarket screens and operating systems. The factory stuff has been years behind the aftermarket stuff since the 1960's.
Or, since they will continue to design infotainment systems to not be easily swapped so they can charge subscription fees for proprietary apps that do the same things as ones that are FREE, how about an option to just use the screen as a screen that can be connected to a device (phone/tablet) to display and control the apps you actually want, and not only the ones "allowed" by the car company?
Isn't that what Carplay/Android Auto is more or less?

yes, but you can't do a literal screen swap, running the apps on the remote device (as far as I know).

Parents have a Maverick. I have a Bandit. The Bandit is faster.

I wish the driver's LCD was bigger, so I could see more info without having to scroll through menus (and that numbers were around on the "traditional round gauge" ... with some kind of linear indicator for speed that's in a contrasting color to the background ... without the digital speed showing in the middle).

I wish the middle screen was a bit further back and smaller (the '21-'24 size seems fine to me).

I wish there were knobs and buttons under said screen so I could navigate all of it without screen taps.

Casting to the screen from my mobile device seems potentially useful, but I don't need it to be able to media apps and games natively. However, if this means I can run Torque on the center display, I'll take it (I would like less Amazon Inc. and Alphabet Inc. in my life).

It would be cool to be able to USB boot one's preferred Linux distro onto the center screen. Sync is supposedly open source...

Make every speaker accessible and removable without the need to remove interior panels. I was a Crutchfield daydreamer as a youth. Sound is important to my "infotainment".

I have the most important question in this thread: Can I install Linux on it? 🤪
The GWM (ECG2) is running “Wind River Linux”, and so is the ACM
Sync 4 is based on some kind of Linux iirc, but haven’t looked at it or the other modules yet.

Some of us back in the day were blown away when FM was added to the radio in new cars. :cwl:

Wife has that new Expedition and that infotainment system is extremely snappy. I'm genuinely impressed. So much so that I've stopped using CarPlay unless I want to listen to Apple Music.
My ability to appreciate audiophile sound while in a vehicle with road noise has significantly diminished with age and the realization that "sound quality" in a vehicle is a fool's errand. No amount of dynamat, subwoofers, or power amps will ever make it sound as good as just $100 full-ear headphones and a $50 MP3 player.
The factory "sound quality" is just fine going down the highway. And plenty loud enough. The embedded simple EQ tweaks it enough to meet my needs. The thing that I find a bit cumbersome right out of the box is the audio file selection process when I plug in a thumbdrive of thousands of my favorite songs. I'm sure I'll get used to it.
note: I've played in rock and fusion bands for the last 50 years, and build audiophile home speaker systems as a hobby. I have an idea what music should sound like.

I wasn't commenting on the audio quality. We use Apple Music and it is not available as a native Android Automotive app, so I use carplay when I want to listen to music.
