Hi.

New here. Thanks for having me!

My much loved Tacoma 2.7l 5-speed manual 4x4 is going to be 16 this summer. I bought it new in 2010. Being in Vermont with all the road salt, maybe it’s time to think about an exit plan. Test drove a 2026 XLT AWD Hybrid and I was impressed with the modern feel.

I want the 4k towing package and AWD Hybrid and I can have that in XL or XLT. If I build it like that the price difference is around $2k. As far as I can see the only real difference is the aluminum wheels and the ignition key versus push button. Plus some minor interior color differences. Don’t see a real reason to go XLT for this things.

I look forward to receiving advice along the way.

Yep, around $2,400 difference for the base configurations with AWD and 4K towing. You'll have to add the trailer hitch option to the XL, all other trims its standard. It's all up to your likes and preferences. Based on the order guide (as I understand it), below are the differences with the base XLT configuration over the base XL configuration.

EXTERIOR
● 17” Painted Aluminum Wheels
● Cubby Storage in Bed (Passenger Side)
● Cargo Tie Downs, plus four (+4)
● Maverick® XLT Fender Badge
● Mirrors, Sideview – Manual-folding, Power Glass
● Power Tailgate Lock
● Tire Inflator and Sealant Kit (standard on Hybrid AWD and 2.0L EcoBoost®)
● Spare Tire (Mini) (155/70 R17) (standard on Hybrid FWD only (300A))
● Wiper Activated LED Headlamps

INTERIOR/COMFORT
● Seats, Rear — FITS kit console cupholders
● Unique Cloth Bucket Seats SAFETY/SECURITY
● Perimeter Alarm FUNCTIONAL
● 2K Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ 4-Pin Connector
(The 4K includes 4 & 7-pin Connector to my knowledge)
● Intelligent Access with Push-button Start (incl. Approach Detection)

If you go XL you can always get any wheel tire combo that you want down the line. And it sounds like you're still used to using traditional keys. I've had push button start since 2005 so there's no way I'm going back to reaching into my pocket. You won't miss what you don't have. Go XL and enjoy the ride!

What about your need for heated seats and mirrors? Are they available on the xl?

With that powertrain, I'd think about frame swapping and painting the rest with POR-15.

I'm in the same boat. Considering an XL hybrid AWD 4k tow. My alternate is getting a Tacoma 2.7L 4-banger 2WD double cab. You know, the non-prerunner 5-lug with the pizza cutter tires like:

I prefer a keyed ignition anyway. The rest of the bits standard on the XLT are not essential.
  • Aluminum wheels - easy enough to find some takeoffs or go aftermarket
  • Bed cubbies - can add afterward if desired
  • Cargo tie downs - can add afterward if desired
  • Power mirrors - negated by CoPilot360, which is required with 4K tow
    • CP360 also adds in rear parking sensors and auto high beams onto the XL
    • CP360 is the way to get power mirrors on the XL. I suppose Ford didn't find it worthwhile to produce manual mirrors with BLIS specifically for only the XL with CP360.
  • Power tailgate lock - this is a lot harder to add on 2025+. I personally don't see a need for one since I specifically ordered my topper with manual locks.
  • Spare - hybrid AWD comes with full-size standard
  • Wiper-activated headlights - could probably do it in FORscan if so desired
  • Seats - I prefer black on the XL over the navy pier on the XLT, but your mileage may vary
  • Perimeter alarm - the XL has a basic alarm. Not sure what "perimeter" adds.
  • Trailer hitch - negated by 4K tow on the XL.
  • Push button start - maybe one of the reasons to get the XLT?
  • Climate control - this is where Ford perplexes me a bit. They advertise that all Mavericks have single zone manual climate until you get to the Lariat, which has dual zone automatic. But the "single zone manual" is actually single zone automatic. Set your desired temperature and it'll adjust the fan/vent/air mix automatically. I think that's a good selling point but I guess Ford doesn't see it that way.
