I don’t know of any that have insulating qualities like this one. It has plenty of breathable holes in it to let the heat escape from the dashboard. Others are solid and either carpeted or suede, with a carpet like backing. If anything is going to let the heat in and not escape, it will be those type. I have 100% confidence in mine. It is a glove fit all the way around and breathable. No lumps or bumps anywhere. And the best part, it wasn’t $70, not $80, not $90, or higher. I paid $28. Proof that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make your truck look good! The seat covers were $35 for the front pair and they fit snugly. No way was I going to pay $150 or more for seat covers! I try to think economically and have a nice truck too.I got the carpeted "Maverick" one just to protect the dash from the sun/heat, but I'm surprised at how hot it still gets in the sun. I would rather have something that has some insulating qualities to it. Anyone aware of such a product?
The dash is ABS plastic. It can dry out in the heat and crack. I live in Florida, so I wanted a dash cover that was breathable. I just don’t believe the carpeted ones and suede ones are breathable. If that type of cover gets hot on top, that heat will absorb to the dash and will retain the heat. One of the first add-ons I did was dashboard cover, but I wanted something that would blend in with the blue interior. Unfortunately, the colors on a screen are deceptive and you certainly can't go by their names (Arctic Blue . . . what the heck is that?) Auto shops don't carry every color for every vehicle so I couldn't look at a color first hand. Ended up returning my first two purchases because the color just looked awful once installed. I decided to leave the dash bare, however, I do like the look of yours. I have to wonder, though, if cracked dashes are an issue anymore. If the dash was upholstered, I'd definitely would worry about sun damage.
How do you like your dashboard tray insert? I have one in my cart on Amazon.![]()
Just took this with my cheap tablet while sitting in the passenger seat. Probably could have taken a full pic from the back seat, but I'm not a small guy. You get the idea.
Good points. I agree with you about not wanting the retro 70's carpet look. Seems like you found the right solution. I'll give it a closer look. Thanks for posting. The dash is ABS plastic. Looks good, but honestly haven't "used" it much. How do you like your dashboard tray insert? I have one in my cart on Amazon.
I've had a DashMat in my constantly outdoor parked Ranger for decades. The dash underneath is still in great shape. It's a thin, breathable carpet material. It's so thin there is no muffling of the dash tweeters that is discernable, to my ears anyway. The dash is ABS plastic. It can dry out in the heat and crack. I went ahead and ordered one. Great salesmanship! When parked I use a windshield screen, but if it helps with glare when driving it's well worth it.Good points. That's nice, but I still like the looks of mine better w/o carpeting.Found an interesting video re: DashMat heat insulation properties. I'm guessing most work similarly.
