Thought I saw somewhere it's for part of High Voltage System De-energizing procedure by Ford Techs.

Connector: C1001 - Low Voltage Service Disconnect (LVSD)

High Voltage System De-energizing

2. NOTE: The use of the "Manual Depower" procedure in this section must only be used when a Ford – specific diagnostic tool is not available or the diagnostic tool procedure fails.
Using the FDRS CARRY OUT the BECM -High Voltage System De-energizing and follow the on-screen instructions.

• Detach the pin-type retainer and position the electrical connector and wiring harness aside.
• Release the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip.
• Depress the tab while pulling the connector until the hole is completely visible on the top of the connector.
6. NOTE: Make sure the electrical connector is secured with a cable tie when opened.
7. Using the FDRS COMPLETE the BECM -High Voltage System De-energizing and verify the high voltage system has been de-energized.

Nice find. it looks really tight to snap into the hole because of the wires. do you think I should attach it some other place?

Maybe just to keep it from hanging.
I see my Escape has slightly different layout and my connector fits into a hole.

I agree, but there is not enough room because of the wire harnesses. I can try and bend them out of the way, but this is very tight. thank you for your photo also.
