Saw my first Maverick in the wild this last week (Wednesday 10-12), other than mine. I think it was an Area 51 or, it could have been a Cactus Grey. It passed by so quick I also couldn't see if it was an XL, XLT, or Lariat. It surprised me. I saw it on Hiway 14 north of Hawkins Texas. Pretty cool.

A few weeks ago I saw a Hyundai Santa Cruz parked by the Floor Source on Hiway 14 North of Hawkins.

So, now there are at least two Mavericks, one Santa Cruz, and a few Ridgeline in our little Holly Lake Ranch/Brookhaven area.

It's been quiet around here except for prepping to paint the Kitchen cabinets and ceiling. Removed all the door fronts to take outside and give them a good cleaning with the pressure washer along with a proper sanding and clean up the edges with a sharp router edge.

"What's that got to do with your Maverick XL?", you asked. Well, the carport is where I work on projects so I have to leave the XL out in the weather. It's only been driven in a light rain once, and a very light misting once and only a few miles. So being left out in the weather is a first, but it has to be done. It should only be for a couple of days.

My Ford Maverick harness for the Puzu PZ-C7 DSP Amp has been shipped and should be arriving in the next week or so. I'll be excited to get it installed and tuned along with activating my Rockville RW68CW subwoofer. Just replacing the factory speakers with the Infinity Reference replacements has the audio sounding so much better. So, I'll repeat an earlier statement, had I know how much better the system would sound with just the Infinity speakers installed, I probably would have forgone the addition of the DSP Amp and the Subwoofer. But I have them, so I'm installing them...at least when the harness gets here. Waiting is such a pain sometimes...I guess it's a good thing that my wife has lots for me to do. ;)

We are re-painting the kitchen, well mostly the cabinets & trim. So the wife said she wanted the ceiling to be a brighter while. Thursday, I taped everything off and covered counter tops and floors with canvas drop cloths. Friday, I got ready to paint and discovered I couldn't get the old roller off to put a longer nap roller on. I told my wife that I didn't want to cut the old roller off because it had barely been used, so she suggested I run into town (Hawkins, TX) and get a new one at Ace.

The ACE Hardware in Hawkins is a new store and only been open a few months. I've been chomping at the bit to go in and look around. So obviously, I jumped at the chance to drive the XL and listen to the fantastic Infinity Reference speakers, so I said, "I guess if I have to then I'll delay everything and go to Ace." So, it was a nice break in all the home activity and drive my XL into town. Not a long drive, but it quenched my thirst to drive the Maverick. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our wives. ;)

Have you guys & gals seen the SEMA builds? The Leaf Johnson build is a crazy but great build. Just glad to see all the new vendors and the SEMA attention on the Maverick.

Had to drive down to the corner and pickup our dinner at Richie's and at the four way stop, there was a Hyundai Santa Cruz to my left making a right turn. I waved but got no response. It's not a Maverick but it would be cool if there were no Mavericks. šŸ˜œ

Drove to Quitman today and naturally it rained a bit when I started out about 9:45 this morning. Only the second time the XL got wet other when I was washing it. Tomorrow more rain so it'll be Saturday before I can wash the road grime off.

On the way back from Quitman, we drove the back way from Pine Mills to Holly Lake Ranch then to Brookhaven. On the back road from Pine Mills, I met another Maverick and I think it was an Area 51. I'm betting it belongs to our friend at Holly Lake Ranch who recently, and finally, got his Lariat. I wasn't expecting it so I didn't get a good look at it.

Some good news about the Puzu Ford harness. It has shipped and is in the good ol' US, so it should be here in a few days. Be glad to get it and get it plugged in to see how the Puzu PZ-C7 DSP Amp works and how the tune goes.

With the time in the truck the last two days I got to listen to some varied music types on the new Infinity Speakers. The full range sounded great listening to Doo Woo yesterday, especially the a cappella group Home Free. The bass was amazing. Today, the wife came with me so we listened at a very low level and still the speakers gave great sound across the different frequencies. I'm just super pleased with the Infinity Reference Speakers.

I've been looking for 1:43 scale models of the Maverick to come out. Wish I could afford to get a license from Ford to produce them myself. Of course the 1:43 scale is not the most popular here in the US, but Internationally it still is the most popular. There are some great resin models being made now and I sure hope one of the premium makers produce models. We'll see, but I am expecting someone to make them soon.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Got a PM from a Ford representative about one of my posts concerning the Ford provided VNZ6Z99501A42B Maverick 2022 TruXedo Soft Roll-Up Tonneau Bed Cover being too short for the Maverick bed. I explained the problem and he actually opened a case for me. Good, a proactive representative for once.

This morning got a call from a Ford Customer Service representative. She quickly told me that Ford considered the "Ford" Tonneau Cover an accessory and that the dealer would have to take care of the problem.

I told her that the only logical way to take care of the problem is to supply a tonneau cover that actually fits the bed. Providing a bandaid fix by providing foam gaskets that absorb water is not a proper fix.

The lady was nice, but not very knowledgeable, and certainly didn't understand that the tonneau cover was part of a factory build order, that had a manufacturing constraint, so the dealer proactively ordered it and helped move up the build date. Kudos to the dealer. Too bad Ford will not make things right for a ill-conceived product decision up front.

I understand that is the way it is and I thanked the representative who sent me the PM for trying.

I love my little XL. It's the perfect vehicle for me at this time in my 75 year old life and meets all my needs. Since I park in a carport the leaking tonneau cover is not a real issue. I try not to drive in the rain if I can help it.

However, it is too bad that Ford builds something that is as successful as the Maverick has been and will be, without taking the responsibility for an accessory that does not truly fit the Maverick. I think it interesting that my 2003 GMC ZRX Sonoma had a factory supplied and installed soft rollup tonneau cover that didn't leak in any way. My 2006 F150 King Ranch had an expensive hard tonneau cover accessory provided by the dealer that did not leak. I wouldn't expect it to.

All this only proves Ford is great at providing useful products. They are great at marketing, although the Maverick hasn't really needed much. I am not angry about this and it will not prevent me from buying another Ford. But, when ordering something with a factory build, you would expect it to fit properly.

The next time I buy, I'll research the Tonneau Covers available before just buying from Ford. This situation with an ill-fitting Tonneau Cover allowing water entrance, along with Ford's unwillingness to solve the issue, shows they will not separate themselves from the rest of auto manufacturers.šŸ¤”

Been painting the Kitchen Cabinets all last week. At my age a simple task takes forever, but thankful I can still even accomplish it.

Unfortunately, the Maverick sat at home all last week. Our access to our side of the lake is via a low water spillway crossing and it was closed this week for maintenance. After driving across it Saturday, I can't tell they did anything to it, but maybe that's the nature of some maintenance.

The Maverick harness for my Puzu PZ-C7 DSP Amp has shipped. Still don't know exactly when it will get here. The wife has me doing all kinds of things to prepare for her hosting Thanksgiving here at the lake, so I don't see how I will get the time to install the harness if it comes in.

Been looking at the carbon fibre trim packages for the dash and other interior surfaces. I love the look of carbon fibre and it should look good on the XL's graphite looking interior. But, I'm not sure. I don't want something that would look tacky just to say it's carbon fibre. Opinions anyone?

Overall mpg average has been creeping up the last few weeks. It went from 25.4 overall average from November 10, 2021 to just passing the 25.7 last Saturday. It's a pleasant surprise...I guess.

Had the XL for a year now on November 10. Can't be more pleased with a vehicle for our life style at our age. Getting adequate mpg, to hauling capability, the tailgate useful as a work bench since I don't have a shop or garage, to even the lack of built in SiriusXM is not a problem using my USB drive and the add on SiriusXM Commander Touch unit. Don't use the SiriusXM as much. Kinda wish I had loaded a USB Drive before buying the Commander Touch. Don't get me wrong, it's a great unit, just don't need it as much.

With the zip file comes .stl files for the body, interior, chassis, rims, and tires. I'm thinking about buying a 3D printer so I can print this jewel at 1:43 scale. Here's the link.

Had a meeting in Tyler this morning and then stopped at the Lindale Walmart to pickup groceries for Thanksgiving at their curbside. On the way back from the Lindale Walmart, stopped at the Hawkins Ace hardware to pickup a couple of cans of white paint to put a new coat on the ceiling air registers. Always an enjoyable drive to Tyler and back.

Finished painting and getting ready to the doors back on the kitchen cabinets...wonder if there was a way that Ford could get the Maverick to do that through the onboard computers?

When I got home I had a package that included the Puzu DSP Amp harness for the Maverick. I took the HVAC vents and cover off, unplugged the connector at the ACM, and plugged in the Puzu harness, then connected the loose connector on the other side of the T-harness. Snaked the cable down the side and plugged it into the DSP Amp. Everything worked great and even with the factory default setting there was improvement in the sound and the Amp made the Infinity Reference speaker come alive even more. I sat there in amazement switching from Amp mode to bypass and back. The difference in sound was markedly fuller, especially from the front speakers. But, the highs coming from the rear were rich, bright and filled out the overall sound very nicely.

I set the 3 band on the factory ACM to flat and switched back and forth between amp mode and bypass. Again, it was remarkable the difference and that's without messing with any settings. I just hope that with Thanksgiving coming up I can find the time to finish connecting the subwoofer and tune the DSP Amp through the software and laptop.

Anyway, the Puzu PZC7 DSP Amp with the Ford harness is plug and playā€”that's no splicing of wires.

More later when I get the sub connected and working and tune the DSP Amp.

Went to the grocery store yesterday to pickup more Thanksgiving supplies and carefully listened to the music through the Puzu PZ-C7 DSP Amp.

First, had to turn the audio volume down a little more as everything is a louder through the DSP Amp.

Second, the volume from all songs emitting from the speakers is much more consistent now. Before through just the ACM some recordings were loud and some were quite low with the same volume setting on the ACM. It's nice not to have to worry about listening volume. I also noticed that I didn't skip past songs as much and listen to the random shuffle of my 4377 songs.

Third, Since I don't have the DSP Amp tuned, I turned the ACM to play for all passengers instead of focusing on the driver's position. It was like clicking a switch that allowed true stereo with various sounds coming from one speaker and other sounds coming from the other side. Stereo recordings playback were interesting to me again.

Fourth, the music seems more alive through the DSP Amp. I've said before I like the bright sounds of surfer music and Jimmy Buffet's attempt at Reggae. Those of you that have listened to Jan & Dean probably have experienced the duo singing and a muddled mess of background music without definition, which makes it hard to listen to, especially on low quality systems. Yesterday, a Jan and Dean song came on and the background guitars were clear, bright, and individual notes could be definitively heard with a solid plunk. Drums too. Reminds me of my old Kenwood system with Bose 901s in the front and 601s in the rear.

I just realized that I haven't listened to Acoustic Alchemy nor Home Free a cappella since I connected the DSP. Hope I have to go somewhere today so I can do that.

I'm definitely impressed with the clear, pure, sound through the DSP Amp. Again, this is using the default factory settings as I still have not connected the subwoofer nor tuned the DSP Amp.

Had to go to Tyler today...well, actually Swan which is where Tyler Pipe is located but it still is in Tyler City Limits. I haven't checked trip mpg in a while so I started the tripometer when I left the house. Over and back which was 60.2 miles I averaged 33.4 mpg on the computer, which was mostly highway driving.

The last time I checked trip mpg to Tyler and back my computer mpg was about months was 30.1. Is it improving a little, or perhaps my driving more acutely cognizant of driving to obtain the mileage. Trip one includes all the mileage, now 3526, and the computer mpg average has gone up to 25.8.

I realize the computer mpg is a little higher than calculated but, the above still gives me an idea of what is going on with my gas mileage. Obviously, I'm pleased that highway trips close to 30 mpg and average close to 25 mpg overall.šŸ¤˜šŸ»

Well, Mi CamiĆ³n Azul has been sitting since Tuesday because we had family Thanksgiving on Wednesday and the next two days there were some good football games on TV. Usually, I'd rather be driving the Maverick but rivalry weekend in college football is kind'a special.

Horns had a good day pulling away from Baylor and the Hogs continued their inconsistent play by losing to Missouri. Really disappointed in the Razorbacks this year, but what-u gonna do? Hopefully the Hogs will start getting more consistent talent in recruiting and through the transfer portal...they need more 4 star players with a few 5 stars mixed in. Proud that TCU remained unbeaten still in the CFP mix. Loved the upsets in the top 25 that shook things up a bit.

Now that painting the kitchen cabinets and getting ready for Thanksgiving is over, on a nice day this week I'm gonna run the power wiring and RCA cables to the Rockville RW68CA Subwoofer, and tune the Puzu PZ-C7 DSP amp. Can't wait to see how it sounds.

Went to the dump this morning and had a full load after the Thanksgiving long weekend. After the dump, I had to wash the truck and while drying I discovered several small scratches into the primer on my hood. They must've been put there by human hands in some way or another because they were perpendicular parallel to the front of the hood, or in other words they were running across the hood. This tells me it was not something from the road.

We had a house full of kids the day of our Thanksgiving celebration and they pulled out extension cords, tools, brooms, etc., and not completely sure why. They even left the electric (120V) leaf blower out in the yard where it withstood two days of rain. I suspect they had dragged something across the hood for some purpose only they know. Wish, they had told me.

Anyway, after drying, I got the rubbing compound out and smoothed out the smaller scratches to where they are not apparent. The larger one, I went over three times with rubbing compound and had to stop before going through the paint and making a bigger mess. After polishing the area, I hit with with Wax & Dry and the larger scratch blended in with the paint. We'll see if it stays that way, if not I'll get some color polish.

Backing out of the carport the first time after the weekend, I heard a thump on the right front. Went to check and the kids had moved a long handled cultivator or three prong claw rake out and I ran over one of the three tongs while backing out. I didn't see any damage, but I had to air up the left front tire the next day before running to the store and again this morning before going to the dump.

Our bunch at Thanksgiving. We had six kids and six adults so we were vastly over matched.

We survived the first two nights of cold with it getting down to around 10Ā° here in East Texas which is unusual. The only glitch we had was the power company giving us a rolling black out for a few seconds on a random basis. I don't have a laptop computer anymore and don't have battery backup for my desktop MacMini M1. So, every time there was a short black out, I lost whatever I was working on after the last save. Obviously I saved quite a bit until the black outs stopped.

The Maverick has sat for the last three days and getting cold I'm sure. I did get out this afternoon and drove to the store. Can't wait for warmer weather next week so I can wash and wax it, and hopelyfully get the DSP Amp tuned and the Rockville Sub connected and working.

Getting ready to celebrate Christmas in Tyler with family there and looking forward to a day of visiting, eat, playing games, and celebrating our Lord.

Wishing all of you Merry Christmas and a Happy, Fruitful, and Successful New Year. Stay safe through the holidays!

08-04-2022 Update Edit:

Just crossed the 2600 miles in almost eight months driving my XL. It's only 325 miles average per month, but for us old retired folks that have slowed way down, "it is what it is," to quote Paula Abdul. My opinions below have not changed much, and we still enjoy our little truck. Since I've grown shorter over the years, it's truly amazing how much easier for me to maintain my truck, especially washing and waxing. I must say, that the ride is very comfortable and I don't notice the stiffness that I talked about belowā€”of course, the reference of comparison is eight months in the past and I don't remember the soft ride of our Dodge Grand Caravan.

I must point out that I have two minor disappointments in the XL.

The first is how easily the textured dash finish can be marred. It feels hard to the touch, but another hard plastic easily mars the textured top. I must admit, it is mostly my fault by not using a backer on the prying tools to remove trim. The hard plastic can be marred, but it is more difficult.

The second disappointment are the extremely weak sounding rear speakers. I come from old school car hi-fi where the best and largest speakers were always in the rear. My very first attempt at hi-fi sound was to add a reverb to the rear speakers in my 1967 Impalaā€”that shows you how old school I am. I found an old Acoustic Research 8" subwoofer (25-150 Hz) in storage, with attached satellite woofer/tweeter speakers I'm hoping to use. I'll have to add a compact amplifier to drive everything. The two rear channels will feed the subwoofer and the subwoofer has connections for the satellite speakers with separate woofer and tweeter which will mount in the existing 4" speaker space (I hope). The Acoustic Research subwoofer and speakers are very efficient and 50-60 watts should drive them very well. We'll see!

There is an excellent benefit of driving only 325 miles a month. Since I'm not driving, it gives me plenty of time to take care of it and keep it clean.

Here is a photo posted previously farther down in this thread and it shows how good the Velocity Blue looks with the XL's contrasting black plastic trim, black bug/hood protector, and black tonneau cover.

1659628782399.jpeg

Even the base XL trim is beautiful, right down to the silver steelies. The more I look at them, the more I like them, so we may not change them.

I sure appreciate all that read my posts.

-Original Post-

Iā€™ve been able to put about 300 miles on the new Maverick XL and yesterday had to drive to Tyler Texas to have Pro-Liner Coatings apply the bed liner. Beautiful job and I like the shiny finish. Today, I installed the soft roll-up tonneau cover and hood/bug screen and since Iā€™m old it took me about 1 1/2 hours.

Iā€™m very pleased with the overall conservative look of the Maverick and I love the bright Velocity Blue. The black plastic rocker trim, black bed rails, black tonneau cover with black grill kinda frames the blue of the truck. The contrast in black and the Velocity Blue is striking and balances the over look of the truck. Fordā€™s appealing design hits home with me in all areas and Iā€™ve been surprised at the attention to detail which seems to be unparalleled in lower cost vehicles.

We chose the XL because my wife didnā€™t like the brown interior of the Lariat and the light multi-tone of the XLT. Iā€™m not sure what I was expecting with the XL Onyx/Graphite color of the XL because photos showing detail of the interior were not clear. The looks of the interior is surprisingly good, especially considering the low cost plastic material used throughout. I love the texture of the top dash material and the ground carbon fibre on the front of the dash. When I first noticed the subtle angular design creases in the right front of the dash I thought it was crimped during installation. The creased design was not apparent in the XL photos and I did not review the XLT or Lariat interior photos enough to notice them. I reviewed the photos and determined they were there on purpose and matched the designed creases in the door panels. Itā€™s un-necessary but it is a good look.

I like the driverā€™s seat and discovered yesterday it will support comfortably in a long distance road trip. The materials of the seat covers have a nice durable feel, yet they are not uncomfortable to the touch. Dark interiors appeal to me and the two tone onyx/graphite (my description of colors) are a welcomed break from a single color. The varying materials and colors on the door panels and dash are also a nice touch. I was disappointed that Ford did not offer a leather steering wheel for the XL but the materials used are comfortable to touch and easy to grip. All controls are in easy reach of the driver and can be operated with minimal distraction. An oversight on the interior design is the lack of map pockets on the back of the front seats. I donā€™t like things strapped on the seats or a lot of exposed straps, and given maps are readily available on my wifeā€™s iPhone through Car Play, weā€™ll leave it as is. We fully intended to purchase Katzkin saddle leather seat covers, arm rests and dash cover, but second thoughts are creeping in because of the pleasing XL interior. We are considering either carbon fibre trim treatments or if they become available maybe an ebony stained rosewood trim.

The 8ā€ screen with the audio is just ok. The Screen looks good and the controls are intuitive and easy to use. Iā€™ve not used my wifeā€™s iPhone with it yet, but I assume the interface with Car Play is typical Apple quality stuff. The audio plays FM music and the system probably doesnā€™t deteriorate the poor sound of FM music. I have not hooked up our old SiriusXM, from 2005 or so, but I donā€™t expect great audio quality, but again I like news and sports talk radio. Interestingly, Ford chose to have USB ports for auxiliary audio inputs instead of a mini audio port. I have to get a cable to go from the mini audio to USB to see how our add-on Sirius will work with the 8ā€ screen and audio. Hopefully it will have some control. I have two more SiriusXM add on radios but havenā€™t found a great place to add them. Because of our age, we probably will keep the XL for a few years so an aftermarket sound and screen system with SiriusXM are not out the question. I would love to have a Bose sound system with maybe a Kenwood screen, etc. Weā€™ll see.

The instrument panel screen is a good size, bright, and feature ladened. The steeling wheel controls for the instrument panel and audio are intuitive and easy to use. Other than cruise, there are plenty of useful and easy to use features.

The AC and heat controls are easy to use and the system works well for me. I canā€™t think that a more automatic dual control would suit us any better when considering the size of the interior space. I do like the dial shifter on the console but it took a little getting used to the location. At first I kept reaching for the column shifter only to realize itā€™s not there and look down for the rotary shifter. The rest of the buttons and features on the console are useful, especially the driving mode. The console is laid out well with the availability of the cubbies, shifter, cup holders, and the USB ports.

Iā€™m extremely pleased with the Co-pilot 360 from every aspect. Iā€™ve not tested the collision braking assist, but the lane keeping assist is great. To test, slowly veering toward the empty left turn lane resulted in the lane keeping assist giving me a bright warning on the instrument cluster plus gently guiding the truck back into my lane. Again, with no experience with such systems the quick warnings but gentle responses were excellent. The blind spot warnings on the mirrors are a great feature that I quickly learned to use in traffic. I can see the benefit of the auto stop/start now having driven the XL in heavy traffic and sitting long sequenced traffic lights on the loop around Tyler.

The gas mileage is pretty good. We live on a rural lake and the access road to our house is about 2 1/2 miles at 15 miles an hour. A trip to the local stores and pizza place have very limited speed limits, and the XL averaged about 24 mpg locally. Yesterday, I drove some 75 miles to Mineola TX and back at highway speeds and then another 110 miles to Tyler and around, plus the trip back. This included around 20 miles of considerably heavy traffic with several stop lights on the loop around Tyler. I even stopped at the Tyler Whataburger with the XL idling minimized by the stop/start active. Using Econo driving mode and stop/start activated for the total trip for the day I averaged 30.1 according to the onboard computer. Admittedly, I drove in a manner to save fuel. However, I love to use the Sport mode and it obviously changes things quickly, but makes the XL fun to drive. Iā€™m thinking of an aftermarket intake and JB4 Tuner if the HP gains are anywhere near those advertised. 300 HP or so would be nice to drive, if gas prices go back down.

The ride on highways is great and the suspension reminds me of our 1966 Corvetteā€”ya know, stiff. In fact I love the way the little truck drives and behaves. It just feels like an extremely stable platform. It reminds me of some of my much more expensive muscle cars back in the day, like my ā€™63 Sport Fury with the 426 cubic inch, 425 HP Max Wedge and the Corvette, except you realize the Maverick is a FWD. But, the FWD pull on accretion is not overbearing like some I have driven in the past. The 2.0 Ecoboost is also responsive, especially in the Sport mode. The steering is responsive as well, and the suspension prevents body sway, which is a feature I really like. Braking is firm and responsive. Again, we havenā€™t tested the collision or emergency braking yet. Road noise from tires on rough black top is noticeable, so I adjusted the setting for increasing audio volume with increased speed. I do see sound deadening material installation in the near future. But on most of our highways, the road noise is not an issue. I love to drive with the moonroof open and the road noise is not overbearing, either with it raised in the back or fully open. There is a wind buffer when the moonroof is fully open. No noticeable hood flutter as some have reported and I really like the looks of the newly installed hood/bug screen.

Added 11/18/2021: Installed the Ford Soft Tonneau Cover and bug/hood screen yesterday. The Bed cover is very short for the bed it is covering and barely extends from the bed bulkhead to the tailgate only barely overlapping. They provided additional weather stripping but the instructions were not clear. I like the looks ok, but wish I had chosen a trifold my wife picked out. The bug screen was an easy install and unfortunately I got it 1/64" off center. You can't tell but I know.

Another add: We picked the truck up on 11/10 late in the afternoon and it turned dark before we got home. It was my first experience with the auto dimming headlights since my 1953 Chrysler Winsor Convertible with the big ol' honking pedestal on the dash with a oval shaped sensor. The auto dimming headlights and rear view mirror worked well and is just another convenience for us old guys.

Yes there is some equipment on both the XLT and Lariat I would love to have, especially the wheels, cruise control, and SiriusXM. And, after adding cruise control, SiriusXM, security system, co-pilot 360, trailer hitch, moonroof, Remote start Fob, tonneau cover and spray in bed liner we will end up paying as much for the XL as a lower cost XLT. Again, we just could not deal with the XLT interior colors.

Obviously, overall Iā€™m very pleased with our choice. The overall cost of the XL was a consideration for purchase, however the XLT and Lariat were in our budget range for a new vehicle. Our last new vehicle was a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan for my wife and it was in the same price range, however included several features Ford chose not to include on the XL. I especially like the UConnect Audio/Screen/SiriusXM/iPod/Phone interface of the Dodge. But, considering all, I have to give Ford Kudos for the Maverick XL.

Edit 066/29/2022: We don't drive much and since last November we've only put 2300 miles on our VB XL Maverick. Not much as changed in relation to my original post here.
Both the original post and the update are FANTASTIC. This is so much better than from the "experts" who are in a Maverick for 2 days, then in a Cadillac Escalade and everything in between as well as above and below.

Glad to see another senior enjoying their Mav. I will hit 76 in a couple of months and love my XLT FX4. What part of East Texas are you in? I previously lived in Ore City and in Quitman and have worked every zip code in ET for years. I semi-retired to the North Central part of the state a few years ago.

Thanks for the kudos which encourage me. I just turned 76 on Nov. 21 a few days past my first year with the Maverick.

I live in the middle of Wood County on a little lake called Brooks Lake which used to be a church camp called Brookhaven Retreat. It is 3 miles south of Holly Lake. We've lived here since 1986. It's a nice quiet little lake with a one lane East Texas oil sand road that goes almost all the way around. We live on the North Fork of the Lake, but we have to get to our house on South Fork Road.:p

If I had my choice I would move somewhere in Central West Texas, perhaps in the country around Aspermont, Claremont, or Jayton area. Or, maybe as far north as Paducah or Matador. I grew up on the Permian Basin and also in the oil fields around Plains & Denver City. Love West Texas.

Again, thanks for the encouragement. Merry Christmas!
