So here's another update. Just drove through a small rain storm and then about 10 miles from home the sun came back out. By the time I got home pretty much everything that was ceramic coated was clean. No water spots except on some on the glass and, of course, the plastic and rubber. But just a quick wipe and looking great. Really impressed. As long as I can write the same thing a year or 2 or longer from now, definitely worth the expense

I do not recall. But I think CeraKote was around $15, which was more than enough to do the truck, and probably enough to do it twice.

At almost 7 months later, the truck still has that just waxed feeling when you rub your hand across it. I will never go back to old school paste wax products.
That's only about double what paste wax is,and seems to last longer so it seems like a good choice.is the application process like paste wax?

Had ceramic done to my Subaru Ascent a year ago and it is still like new. New Maverick Lariat arrives in two weeks (It got out of Mexico in time. 😊) and the first thing I will do is CC the truck.

Ceramic coating is just hype created by the people that hype it. Get a bottle of Meguire's, spray or liquid, and just enjoy your truck. Ceramic this...clay bar that, just an "Extra" step that some will pay for because they believe....LOL. Also, this is just my opinion...and that's all

Do you have any facts to back that opinion up?

the wax itself could be similar, but the obvious difference is that 'coating' word.

ceramic coatings have a resin topcoat that keeps the wax protected very well. that should not be in dispute.

what is in question is how long it lasts for vehicles in various scenarios (always garaged + low miles, garaged + high miles, parked outdoors).

what is NOT in question is that this resin topcoat is very thin and it cannot protect your paint, plastics or metal panels against stone chips and scratches like paint protection film can/does.

ceramic coating resin is accepted as 0.05 - 0.03 mil thick. Meanwhile, PPF ranges from 5 to 15+ mil thick. the thicker ones are often marketed as self-healing, meaning, there's enough vinyl there and it's soft enough that if you park in the sun or gently apply a heat gun, the ppf will 'melt' a little and re-form without scratches. (check youtube, you can see videos of off-road vehicles such as a Bronco, Wrangler or SxS scratched up pretty badly and then this is done.)

so:
- ceramic is a good wax
- ceramic will stay on far longer than regular wax, but who knows how long for each vehicle
- ceramic does not protect against dings or scratches in any meaningful way
- ceramic application tends to be expensive

I had the same question. Six months after a DIY ceramic coat with Cerakote, I would definitely say yes, it is. Water still beads off it like the week after I applied it. And dirt just doesn't stick to the paint.

Totally different product than paste wax.
Did you use Cerakote 1 or Cerakote2? There were issues with Cerakote 1 and the company will replace the bottle free of charge. Hope this helps!
