I don’t have my XL Hybrid yet (23>24 rollover). I’m retired and mostly a homebody. I don’t put many miles on my vehicle ( maybe 100 miles per week). Is there a recommendation or rule-of-thumb about how often I should drive the new truck to keep everything in good working condition, especially the HV battery?

If you’re doing a hundred miles a week, try to make some of those miles on the longer side…….and give it the beans too.

I float charge the regular battery once a week. Otherwise I get low voltage alarm and features stop working. Most alternators do not output enough to keep the battery up when driving few trips and small distances.

Oh yeah, one other thing. When you get home and park it, and if the gas engine is running, let it run until it shuts down, then get out and lock her up. It will run to charge the HVB.

Retired homebody here too.

When I got my hybrid in March, we still had about 3 months of snow to get through...so I did not drive much. The "Your vehicle has entered Deep Sleep" came every few days if I didn't drive it. I think some of that was due to it having sat (built 1/12, shipped something like 2/18, and delivered 3/8/23) for such a long time. Once I did take a long trip, I stopped getting the Deep Sleep notice unless I leave it alone for 4+ days.

Still, I never needed to jumpstart it.

Since then, in the 22 weeks I've had it, my average comes out to only 71 miles weekly. Actually my weekly driving is much less than that, as I took 3 day-trips trips that were each 300 miles and I only have 1600 miles on it.

The manual says if you store it for more than 30 days, you should disconnect the battery. It also says that you should move the truck at least 25 feet every 15 days. All that is on page 333. I have left my 2017 C-Max Hybrid for 6 months at a time (connected to a 2A charger) and really expect that the Maverick would do just as well.

My C-Max had a process where repeated destinations were noted, and the battery would go into EV+ state as the car neared those destinations. The car tried to end its trips with the HV battery in the lowest state possible, as in EV+, you would automatically take the battery lower. The Maverick provides less info on the actual state of the HV battery, but it is the same type. My 2013 and later 2017 C-Max have been trouble-free for 7 years, and I expect the same from the Maverick system.

100/week shouldn't be much of problem. When temp gets below somewhere around and 40 some are having their 12v batteries lose charge apparently keeping things checked. Seems like mine does a little better of I lock it when I park it (even in my garage). Don't worry about HV Battery programming keeps it between 30-40% with ice cycling and 40+ to 72% with Regen and excess current. You want to drive it and try to use what is over the 30% to maximize your mpg. Coast lot. Read threads @GPSMan posts, he has set up monitoring with recording data and posts his findings.
ENJOY!

I saw a post some months ago that suggested that if it was locked, there was less 12V battery use. Not sure if true or not, but I started locking mine most of the time (in the garage as well). Can't hurt, I figured.

really? i did not know that(not unusual for me unfortunately). may i ask how we can confirm this without a built in onboard HVB battery charge status meter?

I double lock with key fob and get the honk and lights, etc go off immediately so it shuts down for a longer period????

good stuff. the Mav is my 1st Hybrid and its nice to get some real world experience with a very similar power train. very reassuring.

I do have a 12v plug-in meter that shows me the voltage when the truck is on. It ALWAYS shows 14.5 when the truck is on and the HV battery is feeding it. When I turn it off, and the radio/lights/whatnot is still on (and the outlet remains powered), I see it generally reporting 12.2-12.3v until I open the door. I was initially concerned at that low voltage, since a fully charged 12v battery should be at 12.65v, but I guess there are enough things still "on" (until I open and then lock the door), that the battery, if checked at the terminals, would likely be at or above 12.5v. But I have not been concerned enough to take a reading at the battery at that time. "If it ain't broke, I'm not going to worry about fixing it."

Another Lariat advantage. I just touch the top of the door handle to lock it, and there is no extra effort to unlock it by sticking my fingers into the handle. I am still annoyed at having to fish the fob out of my pocket to unlock the tailgate...or walk the extra distance to touch the handle and walk back to the tailgate.

Retired low traveller here too.
Glad to hear I am not alone.
Bought it for yard work and home projects.
Just got mine two weeks ago with only 200 miles on it so far.
At this rate it will not be broke in until the end of October.
Like 10,400 miles at my planned two year trade in with only 2 oil changes.
Resale value may be interesting.
We low travelers should start a group page.😀

Yeah….my current ride is a 2011 Ranger 4x4 with less than 95000 miles. I bought it used in 2012 with 8400 miles already on it. We low travelers need to unite, but none of us want to travel to the meetings!
